Does black fit everything?

I agree with gail13 that black can be a little heavy. I do wear a lot of black and blues and some browns myself and if I had to pick just one messenger bag, I'd go for a nice chestnut. It's brown enough to go with brown, light with red tones enough to wear with black, and also looks good with blues.

A black bag has to have a special 'something' about it to make the grade.

Black is smart, urban, dramatic and suave. Ebony brown and black - gorgeous, navy and black - classic Saint Laurent. The more 'country' browns of warm chestnut, rosewood and earth are better suited to other browns, for me anyway.

I cannot carry a black bag with brown shoes but I can carry a brown bag with black shoes. I don't know why but it bothers me. I'd go with a neutral colored bag if you're concerned about it clashing. I carry a metallic bag everyday and it goes with everything and that works for me!!

I think black can match most colors but definitely not all. I wouldn't use my black bag if my outfit is in soft pastel color. Black can be quite harsh too. For neutral I prefer grey and beige

I think chestnut is a lovely color, similar to camel. Not overpowering or dark and can be used all year. You can also possibly consider taupe or gray.

I agree with the previous post. Carmel does go with everything. If I was looking for a versatile color, I would go for Carmel

Same! I have a black bag with brown handles. I remember buying it to go with my brown boots, haha.
Now I am on the look for a brown bag, though. I am not sure what shade I'm looking for. Most of my clothes are black but I've been getting some warmer/earthier tones and I don't think they go very well with black. I was thinking maybe a grayish brown

I prefer black during the winter months. My wool winter coat is plaid (predominately red and black) and my black bags don't clash.

I'm considering purchase a black leather messenger bag. Most of the time I use brown shoes and belt. Can a black bag be used with "everything", or is it best with black bag/black shoes, brown bag/brown shoes? What's your opinion?

As a menswear designer I think their is nothing more chic then black worn with browns and navy. My outfit today highlights that.

I like to go with black more than brown, black is always classic for shoes and bags, it goes for any outfit!
