does bezel setting make your diamond look bigger?

Jewelers will tell you the light is reflected from the top - meaning even bezel set reflects as much light :D

I had a jeweler tell me that too, and my experience is that it's not the case. I had a bezel set diamond (1.5ct, H, VS1, ideal cut) for years, and it didn't show the diamond well. It had 2 little slits in the bezel, one on each side, to let in light, but it still didn't shine like it should have. My sister has a full bezel on a 4ct, VVS, E, ideal cut diamond and it barely shines when it's on her finger. When off her finger and held up to the light it shines like crazy. Both diamonds looked smaller in the bezel, which makes sense since some of the diamond is tucked under the setting.

I love bezels because they're easier to wear and protect the diamond, but I don't think they show a diamond's beauty to the fullest.

oh labrillant, thank you for your input! i'll keep that in mind when i talk to my jeweler...I do like the idea of bezel still for protection and smooth surface....maybe i can see some of his other rings if he carries any bezel and see if it reduces the brilliance. I have a set of cz studs in bezel and also on prong and I always thought prong set was more sparkly...but then it's cz so =\

and jordanjordan, yes! i do like my bezel set earrings too! but i feel like part of the reason i like it for professional occasions (work-wise) is b/c i felt it was sparkly without being too sparkly.......................but seriously it could be all in my head.
