HI Doc! I'm new here so forgive me if this isn't the right thread but I can't seem to find a thread with what I need. I also see so many conflicting answers but I have quickly learned that you're the expert to ask! I am getting a gold Clemence Evelyne bag (my first!!) and I was wondering, do you have to treat it before using the first time, like to protect it? I saw mention of Meltonian All Purpose Cleaner Conditioner. Is this to protect or to clean it?
I also saw a big NO to the baby wipes for cleaning color transfer or other stains. What would you recommend for that?
I want to make sure that I take care of it properly right from the start because I plan on keeping it for life! Thank you! :)

Hi there !
Well congratulations on getting your beautiful Hermes bag ! You should be able to just go and enjoy gold Clemence as is it’s very user friendly workhorse kind of leather. The main thing to look out for is if you have jeans or clothing which is prone to color bleeding and color transfer . Rather that putting something on your bag to protect it I would encourage you to have clothing that bleeds dye treated so I won’t dye transfer to your beautiful bag or beautiful you !
Go rock your H !
all the best doc

Hi Docride! I’m sure I’m posting on the wrong thread, but new to this forum and can’t figure out how to message you. I have a Celine triomphe which is box leather. The handle tends to wrinkle when flexed. No cracks or scratches o the strap I figured that meant the underlying leather is dry?

I saw your Hermes post on box leather. You recommended removing the polish, conditioning, then repolishing?
I was going to use the sapphir products you mentioned on there but didn’t know if this is normal or necessary yet. The bag is fairly new. Less than 6 months old.
I also have bicks 4 and that didn’t seem to do much, but I hadn’t removed any of the polish prior.
Appreciate your recommendations!

Doc, can this possibly be peau porc? Or just a very dry and cracked box leather?

Good eye there Maryg1 , I’d say it’s peau porc also … looks a bit like it’s gone to pork cracklings ?
lol

Hi Doc. Hope you can help. I’m interested in buying this Kelly it’s in Togo but has this stain on it the seller doesn’t know what it is ( I thought a milky drink or hand sanitizer?) do you think spa could help with this?

Wow , what is it ? That's hard to say. Did the seller try to remove the drip mark gently with a soft damp cloth? It looks like some of the drip line is missing maybe it's skipped or has been partially removed? Hard to say what this mark is is without inspecting the bag in hand. As to if Hermes can or will fix it I can not say.
I'd ask he seller about the damp cloth test?
If it did turn out that the bag is stained and if Hermes wont fix it , then you can try some other trusted hand bag restoration professional .
So, if the bag is a great price and you love it and want to go for it you might want to factor repair costs into the price so you can decide if its worth it. Good luck Let me know how it goes .. You are welcome to PM me.
All the best,doc

Hi Doc!! I’ve got a super vintage, rare little clutch stamped with 24 Faubourg Saint Honoré Paris and I’d love to save her. It’s dull, very slightly peeling on flap where it folds and just needs some love- what do you suggest? 50DF1A64-9082-4E93-846D-7BD4DC1AE47B.jpegAD577749-52E8-4496-A5A9-6FC83D590D4D.jpeg62C553F6-B50D-472C-B08C-82710FD709BE.jpeg24D98CC7-32D5-4A8B-8142-F9A41E649C7E.jpeg

Hi Doc!
I am looking into buying this Sac a Depeche 34cm, and I was wondering how much of the scratches/marks can be fixed by taking the bag to the Hermes spa. As you can see in the pictures, some of the scratches are superficial while some of them are deep. I've read contrasting stories of box leather and the Hermes spa (from magical to barely made a difference in regards to scratches), so I would love to hear you expertise before i make the decision to buy the bag. Thanks in advance!
Hi this is beautiful
The scratches will blend back into the patina with conditioning and polish and buffing. Though the scratches will not be removed … however with box calf , after awhile of use the patina , with many light scratches actually doesn’t detract from and may well add to the beauty and the show of its quality leather. Translucency is the mark of the finest leather … look into the skin rather than only at its surface .. with Hernes box calf you truly can !
It’s superb ! I love it !
Good luck
Doc

Hi there ,
That’s charming ! How lovely you will save her ! A trip to the spa or home spa can do wonders with the right products ..
I would choose a light lotion type conditioner and apply thin careful applications. I have a YouTube you can watch on my chanel to follow along doing a home spa. look below this post .. you can also check out my recommendation list for products that I personally have used and tested on various Hermes leather in the reference section .or pm me if your still needing some assistance
All the best
Doc
