Hi doc, thanks for the quick reply. I am not sure about the smell. The bag neither has a leather smell nor smells completely neutral. The bag and more so the dustbag have a — I would say— perfume or incense like odor. The bag definitely does not reek, it more like sometimes you meet people and find their perfume unpleasant. The dustbag did however have a pretty nasty stain that apparently only faded after washing. Here is a photo of the inside (but the stain was not on the bottom). The grayish spots inside are only on the base and in various places.
Probably not mold then which is a good thing maybe it had a spill in the last? Did you try and wipe it clean with a damp cloth (not soaking wet) ?

And one thing I just noticed; If I really take a deep sniff, I do have the feeling that the taste in my mouth changes. That being said, I really have no idea what mothballs smell like - maybe it could alos be that?
Ok so quit huffing on the dust bag
Take it and let it air out in the sunshine and open air if possible
Check on it after a good 4hrs All the best doc

Hi Docride !
It is my turn to ask you for advice, but this time about a brand new bag.
I purchased the most beautiful Lindy 30 in Vert Bosphore with GHW just a month ago.
The first time it went out in a bright direct sunlight an uneven spot appeared.
It didn't show in the boutique at all, nor in my apartment. Only in the bright sunlight.
In your opinion, is this relief a deep vein or the beginning of a crack ?

It does not appear to be a crack from the photos
Is the surface broken ?

To my eyes the surface deep in that vein looks broken.
The George V shop advised me to go meet an artisan in FSH, I'm going on Tuesday.
I hope it's nothing, and if it's not, that they won't figure I'm trying to get a free repair after owning the bag for 1 month.

Hi, I'm new here. I hope I enter this question in the right place. Thanks for letting me know, if I should post it somewhere else.
I have the occasion to buy a used Hermès Kelly 28 in gris-tourterelle box leather. After seeing the bag today, I'm worried whether the scratches (yellowish discoloring) and dark stains can be removed by treatment at Hermès spa? If yes, what would be the cost? Thank you so much for letting me know about your experiences and recommendations.

Dear doc, thanks for your advice. I do have the feeling that the smell fainted a bit. Lightly wiping the inside does not remove the stain, it seems as if it has mainly settled in the creases of the grain. But it is a relief to hear that it is likely not mold.

Stay stare and greetings across the pond!

Hello
This bag would need recoloring to fix the colorloss and yellowing. Hermes does do some recolored touch up but usually just discretely like corners , but you can certainly ask them. I do not know the going rate for an Hermes spa

Dear Doc, thank you so much for your advice! I will not buy this Kelly and wait for another one to turn up. The outcome and cost for recoloring is too uncertain. I'm learning a lot from all of your posts. Thank you for sharing your leather knowledge. Greetings from Switzerland!

You can post your next possible Purchase bags and I’ll have a look for you regarding my opinion on condition and most probable restoration/spa outcome

The craftsman in FSH gave the answer: neither a vein nor a crack, it was a shallow scratch and nothing to worry about.
It was slightly re-painted overnight, and now I cannot see anymore where this mark used to be
