I'm probably making myself unpopular now. I would like vegan leather. I have a few things where the combination of leather and canvas doesn't work well and the items bend (bag charms, purses). A canvas bag doesn't need leather handles, canvas wears out faster than leather anyway. A pure piping bag obviously doesn't replace it in terms of quality. The idea that designer only uses leather from happy cows is very nice, but I doubt that's the case. And if you know all the processes involved in animal husbandry and in slaughterhouses, then it's enough to make you cry. I've been a vegetarian for 37 years and unfortunately I've noticed that the conditions for animals have drastically worsened, in Europe specifically as a result of EU policy. What I would really like is for them to finally stop using fur, it's so unbelievably brutal and the fact that very few people care that they hang unimaginably tortured cats, dogs and other animals on their bags makes me so sad. Fur is not a waste product of meat production and does not increase the quality of an article. It is a luxury item. Likewise, exotic leather has no place in my opinion in this day and age. I would like to see a more critical approach to animal products. But these discussions are pointless. I have been accused so often of using leather items (including shoes) instead of reflecting on the own behavior. In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves what is acceptable to them. But the use of more vegan materials simply creates more awareness of what is behind it. Namely animals. Feelings. Endless suffering. It is not just material. It is a living being.
