Lock is on my damier speedy, but not on my monogram speedy. The leather tab on the damier seems more sturdy; it's softer on the mongram - i don't want the hole to stretch out of shape.

This is me, exactly! Except sometimes I put the lock on the brass square rings that attach the handles to the bag. I love the way the lock looks.

A thought re: tarnishing of locks

In Canada when engineers graduate they get an 'iron ring'. The new ones are actually stainless but many people opt to try to get an 'old' one (usually from someone who has retired or passed on - its a traditional thing, theyre highly coveted if you can get one) the old ones are made out of regular grade steel and similarly 'stain' your skin. What friends of mine did was coat the inside of their ring with a thin coat of clear nail polish which prevents sweat/water from coming into contact with the steel and in turn prevents it from tarnishing.

Wondering... .I should think a thin coat of clear nailpolish would prevent similar tarnishing of the brass and subsequent staining on the leather. So far as Im aware, the varnish in the nail polish shouldnt damage the brass at all and should be easily removed with nail polish remover (tho Im not certain what effect this would have on the lock)

Id volunteer to guinea-pig it and will report back the results... my Azur speedy is starting to feel the wrath of tarnish

Figure what the worst that can happen? Lock should be easy enough to replace, right? :supacool:

I keep my lock on my speedy. but if/when I get another Mini Lin, I'm going to take it off...my first one was discolored from the lock rubbing against it...it turns a sort of reddish color
