Do you wear your birkin more when casually dressed or dressed up?

Hello loves,

I’ve been going through old photos and realized I reach for a birkin for airplane/travel and very casual wear/athleisure wear whereas I reach more for a kelly or Chanel purse when I dress chic and fabulous. Do any of you feel reaching for your birkin when dressed casually too? Would love to know your thoughts because a friend and I were debating about the versatility of the birkin!

XOXO,

I share your view. To me, birkin is a tote and kelly is a handbag, worthy of a more dressed up occasion. I know that some kelly can look casual but regardless, it demands a bit more care in outfit planning than the carefree birkin, if you know what I mean.

Right! I totally get what you mean. To be honest I’ve never really noticed I did it until looking at old photos

oh yes! Birkin/kelly/or any handbag in a formal event is soooooo gross
And yes to this too! Hahaha…
I don't think it's a no-no 100% of the time, but I see a lot of people carrying a birkin to a formal event because it's a birkin, when I can't imagine anyone would dream of using a freaking tote bag with an evening gown otherwise.

Agree, a Birkin is a tote bag. To me it's very versatile, fine with workwear or casual dresses as well as jeans and a tee, fine for running around the city or the country (although not super convenient for, say, a museum day). Fine in smaller sizes for a nice but informal dinner out. It's not an evening bag or a wedding bag.
I do think a Kelly is more versatile.

Yeah, I agree. My B's are my more casual bag, but the K's I do think are more capable of going day to night.

Although once I saw someone in a formal dress at a wedding carrying a B35, maybe just because it's a B. And she proudly had it front and center in all the pictures she was in. Needless to say, it looked odd.

I think this is fully a status thing. It's so hard to afford and obtain a Birkin that people want to show it off and will take it everywhere. I'm not going to hate on that, because if it's that important to someone, and it makes them feel good, ok. Although, showing off anything at a wedding that's not yours is just bad manners....the day belongs to the people getting married.

I def don't carry them for formal events but other than that I use them interchangeably, just depends on whether I want to carry a bag vs having a strap. Sometimes I'm also just lazy about it and use whatever my stuff is already in, so I def have carried my K to the gym lol.
