I agree with you ladies. I often wear a ring on my right hand. I was just sharing that yes there are people in the world who live by this philosophy. I was told by a babysitter when I was very young and the words have stuck with me. Like I said, I don't live by them I simply wanted to share that i remember hearing them.

Littlerock summed it up best, it sounds like a twisted wives tail!

I've worn a tanzanite ring on my right hand ring finger since I received it from my parents the Christmas of my 19th year. So does that mean I was looing for a physical relationship that was being sanctioned by my parents???

How ridiculous!!!!! I have worn my grandmothers engagement ring on my right hand since my aunt passed it down to me at the church at my wedding rehearsal nearly 9 years ago. I'm soooo glad to have it now I've had to remove my own ering & wedding band.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster... Just had to get in my two cents:winkiss:

Umm I have always been taught that rings on your right hand are promiscous and shows that one wants to engage in a physical relationship. I know it may sound odd and when I tell my friends they laugh at me too. But I remember hearing this once when I was a child and it has stuck with me..I was told the right hand thumb is the worst. :shrugs::

Don't shoot the messenger... :smile1:
say wat? Whoever told you that is an idiot. I'm from Ukraine and people wear wedding rings on the right hand(i'm also Eastern Orthodox and same thing applies). To say that its slutty is totally asanine

Slutty? HUH? That's nuts -- wear the diamonds, ladies -- you deserve them -- I'm old (60) and love wearing diamonds on BOTH hands when I feel like it.

Unless one is from some religion or culture that prohibits wearing of diamonds, go for it!

Haha, I read somewhere (maybe here?) that in Victorian times, you were considered "vulgar" and an "attention-seeker" if you wore a finger on your middle or pointer finger. I think these are just old, weird conventions, like how people 300 years ago would be shocked if they saw someone's ankle.

I just read the title of the question again after not seeing "diamond". lol

Therefore, my answer about the tanzanite ring I wear. Anywho, no, diamond rings on the right hand are not "slutty"; maybe ostentatious in some cases.

Funny topic lol

No I don't think it's slutty.
How can a piece of jewelry (that is not in any private place) have connotations of sluttiness?

I have a small diamond ring that I got from my parents when I turned 16.
Since it was not an engagement or wedding ring ( obviously) I started wearing it on my right hand.

I fail to see how that makes me promiscuous ( hell I was a virgin at that age) or mocking the sanctity of marriage.

The woman who said those things is just plain stupid and ignorant.

Being English our "ring finger" is on our left hand so I obviously dont wear rings on that finger (I dont actually wear rings on my left hand but thats just me) I only own one ring and I wear it on the same finger as my ring finger but on my right hand.

I have had 2 people ask me if I am engaged (one being my own aunty...as if I wouldnt tell her first! She got the eye rolling at the time too from me, my bf and my dad who were all sat there at the time) I obviously say no and explain that its on my right hand and not my left.

Clearly I am not wearing a ring on that finger to "trick" people into thinking I was engaged and to everyone I know its not odd when they realise that its not my actual ring finger. If it was and I wasnt engaged then I think that would be a bit odd.

^ I have had people ask me if I am engaged as well since I wear a ring on my right ring finger.

This is odd.. I always thought engagement rings go on the LEFT hand.
Some older people seem to think otherwise?
I've never understood this

Wear what you like and naysayers can go say nay! Lol, I just mean enjoy your ring. Lots of rings have stories and sentiment to us (even to some guys I know who wear them) and anyone who would frown upon it isn't worth our time. There are lots of cool people out there who would just think the reason behind the ring was great!
