I don't want to baby my bags, honestly i have raised babies i don't need a purse be like one lol

I think it depends somewhat on the purse's material too.. i have some that are designed to age, patina .. soften etc.. i strongly dislike purses with fake aging.. the real deal or forget it thanks.

I do appreciate the unique qualities of leather, how individual they can, no two purses alike kinda thing?

That all said i do treat my bags when it calls for it, i don't drop them in mud nor drag them, i don't abuse them, i have respect for my belongings but i also don't let them control my day to day living, it's a purse it's purpose should be to enhance it.;)

No.

I use bags, rather than store them on wardrobe shelves as leather demigods.

I treat them with waterproofing & conditioning products, then continue to live my life.

Noticed another scratch on mulberry I was using yesterday--world kept turning.

No, I would not apply stickers--frog stickers on a chanel bag would look idiotic, imo.

I have some issue even choosing bag charms, though others do this very beautifully.

I like quirky & rumpled. But not fake aging techniques.

I like the look of quality goods developing natural wrinkles/scars, through experiences over time.

Bags, as people, are most beautiful when this way--but, doesn't happen instantly or without both laughter & tears.

Just my thoughts. :)

Love your philosophy! :smile1:

The sticker reference came from having looked at the Anya Hindmarch website where it seems all the rage to customise your bags with leather stickers!! I'm way too fickle for that, what I might like today I may think looks stupid in a few weeks/ months. That's why i'd never get a tattoo!

I don't mind bags having a bit of character, but I can't afford to buy new high end bags, so perhaps it's a function of not knowing any better. And I'm kind of rumpled looking and casual in general, so it suits me. I still have the bed head messy hair that everyone else stopped doing years ago. I do have a couple of bags that are more structured/formal that I would be upset about seeing wear on, though. But I don't use them often, so I'm not worried about it.

I don't think the stickers would work for me, but I think they're cute and I could see them working for some people. I also like hello kitty, so I'm probably not representative of most middle aged women.

I feel the same way about tattoos; they can look really cool and I like looking at them but that doesn't mean that I need one.

Interesting thread.

For me, it depends on the style and leather of the bag. Some styles (Balenciaga moto bags, BV hobos), embrace the aging process well. Certain leathers, like natural saddle leathers, are supposed to age and develop patina.

Funny thing is, I love these looks but structured bags work better for me. I don't abuse my bags but I do USE them, and a bit of slouch or stretch or a scuff or two isn't going to stop me. I spend too much on bags for them to sit in the closet like a museum piece!

I don't like it, though, when people have abused a bag for the sake of abusing it. That seems wasteful and somehow disrespectful to the bag (yes, I know that sounds crazy). The sticker thing is not for me. Whimsy is OK, but the AH stickers are too kitschy for my taste. Plus they are intended to be permanent (it says that on the AH website), and imagining the damage to the leather when people start peeling them off makes me cringe.

The bags I've seen of yours are beautiful. :)

Hold on, bedhead look is wrong? Because I do this too, what with taking no longer than 8 minutes to get ready in morning...
Note to self: invest in hats.
:D

Given that I know most of you love your bags even more than I love mine, I didn't know that I'm so much the outlier on this one.

I like my bags to stay as new and pristine looking as a possible. I don't want to carry a bag that looks "worn". For me, it would be like wearing scuffed shoes or a faded dress which would seem like I didn't take care of me / my things.

I change my bags daily because I like them to coordinate with my outfits. So, every bag of mine gets used and used many, many times. I don't "baby" my bags. I don't have them stored in a shrine. Sometimes they are placed under an airplane seat. Sometimes they get placed on a floor. I don't use dust bags because I like to see them in my closet. In fact, I cracked up when I saw the handbag raincoats because I couldn't imagine working that hard to protect a bag. (No offense to those who do! I just don't want another thing to manage.) The only storage care I give is to stuff my bags when they are in my closet so they keep their shape. The only regular care I give is to keep my leather bags conditioned.

That all being said, my bags never get beaten up, scratched up or "worn in". I have children, I work and I have a busy life. So, I'm not being silly on this but I'm really puzzled on how handbags are getting so much visible wear. 😳

When I wear my bags, they look just about as nice as they did when I purchased them. When I'm done with my bags and resell them years later, I get top dollar for them because they look great - a few that I bought resale even look better because I cleaned up small stains in the lining or conditioned or refurbished the outside.

So, bottom line for me, I keep my bags like everything else I own whether it be my furniture, clothes, car, etc. Everything is USED and everything is kept in pristine condition. I'm the one who eats meals in her formal dining room with the kids and hubby and the dog under the table using her best china and crystal sets. 😜My nice things are there to make me happy daily and life is to be lived out loud. My things don't serve a purpose in a closet. And, I can't be happy with them if they aren't in great condition.

Aw, thanks for the bag compliment, Remainsilly :)

I'm with you on the 8 minute rule & the eternal appeal of the bedhead, InStyle Magazine be damned. I love not having to think about my hair in the morning.

You can't go wrong with shaggy layers IMO. Chrissie Hynde has looked awesome for about 40 years with that look.

Hats are great but it's another accessory to worry about and my brain can't handle too many variables. And they don't always play nicely with the sunglasses, so that's a big minus .

I'll bet you rock the messy locks :)

As much as I would like to keep my bags as pristine as possible, I know that's not feasible. I don't mind if my bags age or a bit worn in. But I will possibly have a major heart attack if any stains are on them. :faint:
Putting stickers or painting my bags...yeah, right. Over my dead, cold body will I let that happen.

I like my bag to look pristine, clean, and everything. I don't mind a few scuff and scratches that will happen along the way. I buy my bags to be used. So, that part comes naturally. But I despise bags that look so worn and out of shape. If you bother to look nice with your clothes, bag is part of the outfit, too. But if the person is dirty all over, I don't really judge.

I don't outfit my bags with sticker and bag charm. I tried but it never come out right. I love it on others though. I just don't have a knack.

Do whatever make you smile when you look at your stuff, be it stickers or bag charm.

Just don't make it permanent. Just in case you get bored so you don't have to throw the whole bag away. ;)

I do the same as you do. :) I like my bag in pristine condition, too. My bags from 10 years ago don't have any fading corner or a stain. And I loaded it up seriously, put on on the floor (a clean one) and everything. Still, it look like new. I don't know how people manage to rub off or scratch corners of that same bag as seen on evil bay and claim the bag is gently used. It's fine. You can use the bag but just say it's used. Not "gently used". I know it's not new. It's ok.

I take good care of my bags, so I do keep them all in good condition. And depending on the style and material, in most cases I do want my bag to look pristine, for example, structure bags like my Fendi 2jours or my Celine exotic box bags. I can't stand scratch or stain or loosing the structure of the bag! But with my Celine symmetrical bag in natural calfskin, I love the patina that's being developed over time as it goes so well with the vintage vibe the bag has. I think other bags like BV Veneta bag and Bal motorcycle bags also look fine (or better) as they age!

I definitely take care of my bags, ie, keeping them off the ground and wiping or conditioning every now and then. I don't like premature scratches, but I love seeing well loved bags up for consignment. Tells me that the owners had fun with their bags. The pen marks always get me though. [emoji53]
