I view myself as being Catholic (None Baptist), My husbands family is Catholic.
I have cross earrings and necklaces.
I wear because i like the cross & also because i see that it brings me closer to MY god.
You shoudn't feel compelled to wear or not wear, if you wish to wear your necklace then do so with PRIDE & JOY.

Christ died for all of us on the cross... if you believe in that and you are a Christian, you should feel comfortable with wearing a cross.

I agree with this. I am a Christian in that I believe Christ died for me. I do go to church regularly, but do not think this this a prerequisite for wearing a cross. I really can't understand why someone without a belief in Jesus dying for them and acceptance of Him into their life would want to wear one.

Enjoy wearing yours, but don't be surprised if people make assumptions about your beliefs for wearing one.

I love wearing my crosses, I'm a Christian though. I may not always agree with everything in organized religion, but I know Jesus is my Savior and I believe in the Bible. IA with the other posters, I'm not sure why someone who didn't have even the basic beliefs in Christianity would want to wear a cross. I wouldn't wear a Star of David or any religious symbols of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. People will think you are Christian if you wear one, I don't have a problem with it b/c that is just who I am, but if I wasn't I wouldn't want to project that image.

Do you have to be religious to wear a cross? An analogous situation to perhaps broaden the enquiry: do you have to be married to wear a plain band on your ring finger of your left hand?

If you wear a ring on the ring finger of your left hand, the majority of people will assume you are engaged or married. You might not be, but that assumption would be made and it would be a fair assumption. A ring on the fourth finger of your left hand is recognised generally to denote married status.

I think similarly, wearing a cross does imply Christian faith although it does not necessarily imply devout practise. As an atheist, I can appreciate the aesthetic quality of a jewellery cross, but I do not wear one. To my mind it is more a religious symbol than anything else.

i don't think you have to be religious to wear a cross. i think it'd be a little odd if you don't believe at all yet wear a cross, but i definitely don't believe you have to be 'super religious' to wear one. i've worn a cross a few times and it's kind of like luck and protection to me. i'm not very religious but i do believe. hope that wasn't too confusing!

You know that poster in some workplaces it says "You dont have to be crazy to work here, but it helps" (cue groans)

I feel the same way about this cross question. I wear a cross sometimes because I am a Christian. I think anyone can wear a cross or any symbol, its up to you what you want it to represent.JMO.

i think anyone can wear a cross, or any piece of jewelry for that matter. but i think it would show to the viewer somewhat of a religious message. for that reason i wouldn't wear one, i am jewish and would not want to convey i am some other religion. even though i've seen some nice cross jewerly designs.

The key words in your post were"my boyfriend at the time", if he did that to **** of his mom imagine if he wanted to **** os his wife, scary.^^

i know exactly. the funny thing is, he and i still keep in touch (even though i live in colorado and he lives in new jersey now) and he cheats on his wife all the time. nice, huh? he is just the regular man-whore.

If you wear plaid, will people assume that you are Scottish?
If you have an oriental rug in your home, will people assume that you are Chinese?
If you live in Michigan and wear a cowboy hat, will people assume you are from Texas?

Oh....just pondering with my coffee this morning..........

I'd say wearing a cross is a symbol of your faith, so if your not of that faith its a bit odd to wear one, you should try to respect the meaning of peoples religious symbols so they shouldn't be worn just for fashion.
