do you feel that the disparity in quality is not noticeable?

One of my dear friends has a great eye for detail and flawlessly pulls off mixing high and low together. She has exquisite taste in accessories including bags and jewelry, but she refuses to splurge on clothing. Her ability to put a gorgeous cohesive look together is enviable.
On the question regarding outerwear, I love a chic coat and nice handbag combo.... even if the outfit beneath is rather simple.

'simple' is the hardest to execute and is the epitome of quality

Obviously the definition of what is ‘high quality’ can vary wildly. Few people would intentionally buy poor quality but sometimes we say ‘it will do’. Definitely agree that just because something is by known designer it doesn’t equal quality. A lot of smaller -just starting out - designers make the very best clothes, :yes:though the same can probably be said for bags- yet we still buy Hermes.
@papertiger also a brora aficionado here and Harris Tweed is great for everyday coats. Saville Row for ladies sounds a dream - of course no disparity in quality there.
Although I am prepared to pay for bags and tailored coats - I don’t buy expensive jeans or trainers, others may be different.

I would say, for myself, it is definitely a mixture of high-mid-low pieces. It is really down to the individual item and whether it goes with my planned outfit.

I tend to splurge the most on bags and shoes, followed by outerwear, but nothing in the realm of Hermes prices.

My outerwear pieces are usually from Burberry, Moncler, Canada Goose and Theory, but I also like buying pieces from brands like Tommy Hilfiger, AllSaints, Ralph Lauren, Lululemon etc. As long as the item looks well-made when I'm buying it, I'm not particularly fussed about its provenance.

I like buying designer tops (jumpers, sweatshirts and the like), but I probably rarely spend much on trousers (my thunder thighs mean the inevitable wear is sped up exponentially, and I've learnt the hard way that expensive or cheap denim behaves the same way for me). Usually ASOS is my go-to for those, and they have served me very well! I tend to just get them altered as required.

My basic staples are usually from Uniqlo, and I cannot fault them on their quality, and at eminently reasonable prices.

I agree with this too. Material, fabrication and design POV are key factors in what is “high quality.” I have a lot of my clothes made for me by my favourite Australian designer who sources superb fabrics from the same mills as the leading European RTW makers. I get one-off pieces perfectly tailored and hand finished this way, for much less than luxury RTW costs. But I also love to support smaller designers doing interesting things at a lower price point.

Bags are not an afterthought for me! I usually plan my outfits around what bag I want to carry that day. :hugs:

Hi Veritybelle,
Would you mind sharing with me who your designer is or who you can recommend? (Unless it's Pia who I know has just retired!)
Regards, Hat Trick.
