Hi everyone,
Lately I've been feeling overwhelmed by the quantity of the bags I have.
Don't get me wrong I love the bags I have, every single one of them. I have different brands (Balenciaga, Mulberry, Jimmy Choo, Rebecca Minkoff, Linea Pelle etc) but sometimes I almost wish I had less so I can use them more. Sometimes I feel so lazy that I can use one bag for a month and then I feel guilty that all these gorgeous bags just sit in my closet. I wish I could use at least one bag till the point to throw it out but it is not possible with the quantity I have. By PB standards I don't have a lot of bags, around 20 half of the premium and half contemporary but it is quite a lot to rotate. Sometimes I feel tired of constant rotation.
And at the same time I keep looking on bags and wanting more... Crazy!
Tell me I'm not the only crazy here!;)

Yes.

I don't even have that many bags, but too much for my own use, which is why I'm in the process of downsizing my collection. Ideally, I'd like to have something like 6-7 bags that are absolutely perfect, and that I could use often so that they would really feel 'mine', if that makes sense.
I'm selling a few of my bags atm, and was thinking about getting one bag to replace those that were not perfect but guess what happened when I started looking at different options.. I wanted them all! Crazy.

I only have 7 bags.

6 LV
1 Tiffany & Co.

and I do feel overwhelmed.

my collection:
mono delightful mm
ebene speedy 35
azur neverfull GM
epi mandarin alma
violette vernis bellevue PM
ikat rose velour neverfull MM
tiffany & co. smooth leather tote in tiffany blue

I don't even have a small clutch for evenings cause I know I don't need it.
I use all my bags on rotation and sometimes I wish i can use them more often. the problem is I love them all so much, I'm overwhelmed to pick just one at a time. and yet my eyes wander to buy some more! that's the irony of it.
I remind myself constantly that I have more than enough.

If it's any consolation, I used to feel somewhat overwhelmed as well. But then I realized the problem was "inventory control". I cataloged all my bags by designer and then by size. Next, I set up an Access file that allows me to enter what bags and accessories I plan to use on any given day. It sounds complicated, but once I put it into practice it has simplified my life greatly. I choose my bag and accessories the night before, forcing me to also chose what I'll be wearing the next day. In this way, having over forty bags allows me to consciously enjoy the lovely collection I truly treasure.

I do have a tendency to become overwhelmed and I've decided 12 bags is a good number for me. I currently have 10 LV's and 2 Pradas, plus LV accessories. If I find one that I think I can't live without, then I have to sell one before a new one comes in. It's the only way I can keep things under control. I had quite a few Coach bags, but realized that I would carry them instead of the LV's (wanting to save them, not wanting them to get dirty, etc) and I thought how silly, to spend that kind of money on a bag for it to sit while I look at it. That's when I decided to sell the Coach's and stick with LV's instead.
So far so good, and honestly, it's the first time I've truly enjoyed my bags.

I found that if the chase was more fun than the bag itself or when I had a bag that I was rarely reaching for, it was time to rethink if I needed it. So I sell/consign anything I don't wear/love. I try not to duplicate on bag colors, and that seems to keep me organized.

I don't know how some tPF-ers wear all of their bags. Like you, I have less than 20, but I am very aware about making sure each bag gets some arm-time.

There's a great thread in the Money Talks section about cleaning out a closet and how to approach it. If variety is what you crave, some do the 1 in 1 out rule. That way you never have a pile of stuff (and can make some of that money back).

You'll feel less overwhelmed once you can declutter. And it will be much quicker to make a "which bag should I wear" decision because there will only be your favorites to choose from.

It's like you read my mind! :). I feel overwhelmed, but I still want more?! I don't rotate enough too...so I'm right there with ya!

I went from 24 to 4. And I won't go above four again - I've got a pretty strong one-in-one-out rule.

I took me about two years to clean the closet, maybe less. I realized I had a problem when I became embarrassed to show people my collection; I couldn't even justify it to myself anymore.

I cannot believe I ever had 24 bags.

I'm in a good place today.

I have a lot of bags--well after joining tPF of course!!! I feel overwhelmed in the sense that now I need to figure out how to store them so they stay nice and in shape for a long time.

However, I don't feel overwhelmed in the sense that I may not use them as much as I would like. I know that I will always have bags to use later, for that once in a lifetime event, or to give as gifts to family and friends. Many times in the past, I have seen a bag I liked, and didn't get it because I thought it was too expensive or I wouldn't have a place to use it.

Years later, I still think of those items I could have purchased instead of buying cheap bags that are now trashed or of no use. So, since my shopping craze started this past August, I have a new ton of bags, but I'm happy about them. They are all great values or just things that *I WANTED*, so I'm feeling more at peace. :amuse:

Yay bags! :yahoo:

I'm feeling overwhelmed too and I only have 5 designer bags and 2 contemporary designer bags. I wish I could figure out a way to be comfortable with what I have. Sometimes I feel guilty for having nice things :\

I actually used to feel that way. The biggest times came when I purchased my first two homes, and then my new car. I felt that people would think that I'm bragging, or that I think I'm too good or something.

Well, it took a lot of positive self-talk, but now I get what I want, when I want it, and focus on my values and happiness.

I don't know exactly how many bags I own.....Fortunately, now.... I live in a place where the most expensive brands are not represented. It helps....But I receive mails for private sales on the Internet....and to resist buying...I delete the mail immediately....
I wish I had 5 or 6 bags only...
I have given a few to my friends, I try to rotate...but it's still difficult to use them all.....
I consider myself as an addict but I am trying hard to quit....

I feel that way sometimes...but at the same time, I love having the variety to choose from. I "purged" a TON over the last couple years by selling them on ebay, but then bought so many more over the last few months again (the fall season kills me!)...so sometimes I do feel overwhelmed. It sounds stupid, but when I'm carrying one bag, I think about another that I have at home and then I MISS that one! My husband jokes that I should "go all out and carry them all at the same time"...the epitome of a crazy bag lady, lol. And yes, I still look at bags in stores. But I want to stop doing that - I have more than enough right now.

I definitely can feel you. I have A Lot! Now, I tell myself "no more cheap bags just because it's cute or whatever" coz I know I won't wear them. I don't duplicate color anymore. And I try to stop my old habit of buying one in multiple colors. And when I want any new one, it has to be used, not kept. So far, I'm doing ok on buying, but still having a hard time rotating one. I didn't wear some for over a year, but can't make up my mind to get rid of them. Maybe one day... :)

I've been on the 1 in 1 out, downsizing, buy/sell cycle, last bag purchase etc so many times over the past few years my gf and dh no longer bothers :sweatdrop:. I think i'm finally at the ideal balance now (for now anyway). I've realise as we age our bag needs some times changes. I've 6 now and 1 was from my mum so theorectically 5  i think as long as i stop looking at bags i'll be able to stop the buying and be more happy with what i already have. There are other things to spend time on vs bag browsing all day (cough i used to do that)
