Do you baby your bags?

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I found this picture in my archived file and hope it brings some tenderness smiles. :hugs:

A happier relationship is when my SO totally understood and accepted my other relationship with my Birkin, his thought was it's a lot cheaper to dry clean his Prada Cashmere jacket than me sending my Birkin to Spa clean and wait for weeks if not months.

BTW, I was having a Cioppino crock pot and I no longer taking my B35 to lunch/dinner anymore, I found Kelly is much more easier to tuck in the back of my chair :p if we can't get a bigger table with extra chairs for my bag (as we both enjoy eating and always ordered a lot more food).

Thanks for letting me share.

Awwww your SO is so sweet!!! He really gets our struggle!!! (((hugs)))

Loving Starbucks seasonal Fraps, especially because my fave Smores is back! DH decided to venture off and try the Midnight Mint Mocha since he LOVES mint. It was a success, he found his favorite seasonal Frap. I was happy for him until a sneeze snuck up on him and on to my Rose Azalee Constance are some Midnight Mint Mocha spots. Ewwww.

I am in desparate need of Lexol wipes from this point forward. I googled it but not sure which is the right one to get. I cant believe bring Boogie Wipes for my human baby is not enough, I need wipes for my leather babies too! A screenshot or pic may be asking for too much but is greatly appreciated.

This pic totally made me chuckle! I must confess that I have done the same thing with my bags, throwing a jacket or table napkin over the bag! I have had waiters spill drinks and food on me as they walk by or serve. Accidents happen and I'd rather be prepared or protected. Is this babying? Does it matter? Some people do not care if they get salad dressing on their bags, but I sure do! Where is the harm in that?

Awesome, thanks! It was just gross if anything!! I used a baby wipe, that was all I had when it happened. I want to disinfect the bag but how?! Lol! Thanks for this link!

Lol, my bags are more in danger of DH sneezing coffee all over them than a waiter spilling greasy food. I hope you got all the mocha off of your bag! And I would not hesitate to use a baby wipe in a situation like that (have definitely done it on more than one occasion, followed of course by a clean dry cloth to remove any moisture). For those who are moms of young children, a baby wipe is always tucked somewhere on our person. Lexol wipes, not so much.

Love this pic! Your SO is like my Hubby he understands and will even protect my bags for me also, P.S. I've done the same. [emoji4]

Bumping this old thread as we currently have different active members on the forum. Sharing part of the original post:

There's been a recent wave of off topic posts in different threads relating to babying bags so I thought a topic was in order.

From liners and organizers to replacement plastic on the hardware to placing the bag only on a napkin/cloth when it has to be put down it seems that tPFers are engaging in some extreme behavior to baby their bags.

I find this fascinating and worthy of respectful discussion. I'm not attacking anyone but it does seem to me that it prevents you from really enjoying the bag. Maybe that's not the case? How far do you go to "protect" your bag from the world?
Discuss! :chatty:

I use a bag insert/organizer mostly because it helps me find small items quickly (sunscreen, lip balm etc) and saves me the trouble of rummaging through to find something. I guess there is the added benefit of minimized damage if something leaks.

I try to keep bags clean and not place them on the ground. I will have it on another chair or on my lap if there's little space. For bags that have come with hardware stickers I always remove them. I think it's sus to keep them on lol- makes me think you're going to resell them. I store my bags inside dustbags in a closet (mostly because I have pets). I don't really care about minor scratches. I toss around my bags on clean surfaces all the time.

I only own an Evelyne from H though so maybe I will baby other bags more.

I don’t know if it’s babying but this is what I do. I use an insert for my Bs (for convenience) and for my Kelly Flat (to avoid accidentally staining the Rose Dragée interior and to add just a bit of structure) but not for other bags. I always remove the plastic. I think it looks tacky to keep it on, JMO, like having clear plastic covers on your sofa lol. I don’t use boxcalf in the rain. I happily put bags with feet on the floor, otherwise I hold them in my lap or put them on a spare chair/stool (I do this for all bags, not just H). Otherwise I enjoy them without worrying.

This is my perspective pre-QB, but I think it'll likely stay the same:

  • I never put bags on the floor. I either hook them onto the table, hold them in my lap, or otherwise keep them on the chair in some way.
  • I have messed up the interiors of bags before, so I'm always cautious about items that can spill. I don't put water bottles in my bag anymore, and I always put things like hand sanitizer in a separate bag within my purse.
  • I personally don't use inserts because I keep things in smaller bags (Stoney Clover Lane FTW), but I'm not opposed to them.
  • I just generally try to treat my bags (and other stuff) nicely, and do what I can to keep them in decent shape. That said, they're still being used all the time, so if things happen, they happen. I just do what I can so they don't happen.

I'm not sure I have anything terribly different to add but I to try to remember that although my Birkins and Kellys are so expensive as to be out of range for most people, they are 'just' bags and if I don't use them as such, I'll have wasted that money. Definitely work to reduce my cost per carry ;) However, like @Veritybelle, I do try to avoid carrying my 1999 box Kelly in the rain...quite challenging in the PNW and thus its cost per carry is still higher than one might expect for a vintage bag.
