Okay, this may be a weird question...but I was talking to a friend today and she said that she feels that certain types of people carry certain bags. The way this came up was that I happen to own a lot of Coach bags but had my eye on a Kate Spade bag, and she said to me, "Well, a Kate Spade type of person is a whole different type than a Coach person!" (I actually think she was implying that Kate Spade people are somehow more sophisticated than Coach people but I didn't ask her as I probably wouldn't have wanted to know the answer.)

So, what do you think?

I actually agree... When I think of a Kate Spade purse (I havent seen many here in the UK) I immediatley think of Charlotte in SATC and she is all pristine and elegant (that might of been narrow minded maybe lol). When I think of Coach I think of a more casual kind of person. I'd feel like someone maybe into D&G would be edgy and so on. I'm not sure if my ideas are common but its just what I think of lol.

Definitely. Different brands appeal to different people for different reasons. Like Juicebox said, D&G is more edgy, Kate spade more sophisticated... The list goes on!

I know that all of these design houses spend millions of dollars and hours trying to craft these images so that people will buy into them...it's all branding!

Lots of people are brand loyalists. Sometimes a certain designer just really strike a chord with you. You seem to always love their stuff... it suits your lifestyle and your style...

That doesnt mean that you shouldnt branch out to other designers (and other looks for yourself!) though.

 certain aspect of a brand appeals to you, people with similar tastes like that brand as well... then those people known for being a certain way and liking certain things generally like that certain brand which leads to the brands reputation.

what I originally meant earlier:shame: is that I personally see kate spade for being 'sophisticated', and D&G for being 'edgy', because those are the reasons those brands appeal to me... make sense? (If I needed a bag to go to work in the office, kate spade would be the first thing to come to mind, night out on the town, D&G zipper purse!)

Of course reputations are all subjective!

Your friend is picking up on the very carefully crafted images the different brands create for themselves. That said, we all have different aspects to our personalities and can want to look different from day to day. You may very well be a Coach lady typically, and have your Kate Spade moments as well!

I dont think I was trying to emulate stereotypes cos lzznit was exactly right - different brands appeal for different reasons. I hopefully imagine a postive image for all brands they are all just different in their own unique way :)
