Do Hermes SAs get sales commissions for birkins?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

"The bags are priced the same as some cars! "

clothes are more expensive: one of mys business pertner buy a flying jacket in croc 60.000 € and there is more expensive...

If they have commissions and targets at work, then I am really baffled why some not so good SAs can actually act unaccommodating towards customers.
If I were there working at a shop, I'd be so busy trying to build rapport with customers and trying to get as much sales as possible (instead of chatting or being snobbish or whatnot). Luckily all Hermes SAs I met have been polite (whether it's genuine or not that's different story), but I met one who's very helpful (more than the others) and from now one she'll be the person I go to if I want to buy Hermes stuff.

I think Hermes really need to enrol them to some sales course prior starting the job or something, because clearly quite a few of them don't understand building rapport and connection is the best way to bring in repeat and new business.

I think use of the word "commission" is confusing when explaining H sales policies, as they do not pay commissions in the usual sense.

Unlike many retail business when SAs earn a direct % of their sales as a "commission," H SAs (in the US at least) have instead a monthly sales quota/goal that they are expected to achieve. Everything counts toward that quota EXCEPT Birkin and Kelly handbags. (Fyi - travel Birkins & Kellys DO count toward their sales quotas as they are considered "luggage," not "handbags." So if you're looking for one of those pieces, I think you will find SAs to be very helpful!:smile1:)

In addition each store has an overall sales quota/goal as well, and when all targets are met, everyone gets a share of a pool commission...

If it is correct that they get no commission from Birkins/Kellys, do they get commission from say Lindys, clutches, kelly cuts, wallets? Does anybobody know the position in Europe stores?

It works very much like my former job. I had a quota and any business I brought in (like other bags, silks, SLGs, etc.) counted toward that quota. If I exceeded that quota, I got paid a commission and if I didn't, I didn't get a commission for that month/quarter whatever. With the exception of business I handled that was brought in by "upper management." That didn't count toward my quota. Sort of like birkins and kellys.

Since I've now put that in writing and thought about it and how I behaved toward my clients as opposed to how some co-workers behaved, it's got me wondering... I ALWAYS exceeded my quota and got a bonus. A lot of my co-workers didn't. And rather than changing their behavior and actually trying to do their jobs better and treat clients better, they just got worse. I suspect they never made quota and figured it was too much trouble, or the quota was too high, or it wasn't worth it, or maybe they were just negative people who loved wallowing in their own misery?

Reminds me of some of the SAs I've read about. Thankfully, I've met only one H SA that I didn't like and that was just VERY recently. All the rest have been wonderful.

I think kelly cuts and pochettes may fall under " Kelly" (and hence they are pooled commissions) but I am not 100% sure.

Other bags like Lindys, Picotins etc are definitely individual commissions

I have been tom by my SA that they do not receive individual commission, but rather a bonus based upon overall performance of their store.

They do receive a bonus in addition to the commission of individual items + B/K sales if the entire store does well... the store managers have been known to receive bags (including Birkins) as reward for good sales performance.

SAs do get commission for selling Birkins and Kellys. Like all other items it is put in a "pot" and divided among all SAs. They get commission on everything sold ... grouped in a pot for all to share.

The goals are individual and each year the SAs are given an individual sales goal to meet for the year. When they sell a Birkin or Kelly, it is not applied to the goal, as the other items are. So that may be where the misinformation came from ... Birkin and Kelly sales are not applied to the yearly goal.

Yes this is the true fact. I do think that perhaps franchise stores can set rules them selves regarding commissions/bonus, but the goals are set from head office.
