Dior Saddle versus Bobby versus Tote

30%? that's steep! I heard from other places that it's more like 10-20% increase..

Yes, it could go as high as 30% based on what I read here: https://www.********.com/dior-usa-price-increase-may-be-just-around-the-corner/

I am also seeing SA's from Saks, etc. posting on my IG that they are warning us to make purchases prior to 2/1!

Bobby . Because it’s more classic . Saddle is chic, definitely make head turn but so heavy and not to mention can not fit anything due to the shape .... my Chanel mini flap can fit more stuff than regular size saddle dior. It’s cool but not practical . I am all about practical .....you can add character to Bobby by changing the regular strap to optional new style adjustable guitar strap ( I think that’s how people called it ?) because some people think Bobby is boring like coach bag . For me it’s classic style and the leather is divine .

Honestly, I keep going back and forth. Someone mentioned on here that there are other bags from other designers that look very similar to the Bobby- that has now gotten somewhat stuck in my head. However, the plus point is that it holds more. I like the saddle bag, although initially I thought the kidney like shape was kind of weird and questioned how functional it would be. However, now I am very intrigued by the design and the fact that it went off the market and has made a come back. This could be an opportunity to get a special piece. Not sure how much actual use I will get out of it or given the pandemic where the heck I will use it. I am in California and they just reopened outdoor dining, not sure how long that will last. I tried to get another Chanel bag prior to the price increase recently, but I decided that I wanted to branch out my collection more. Now with the price increase, I may have to make that happen quicker than I originally planned.

I resonate with all of this! It truly does feel sometimes like our previous "normal" will never fully return, especially with the news of this South African variant officially reaching the US ugh. So the idea of having places to use an expensive occasional/special piece starts to feel farther and farther away. I know I'm just repeating myself, but I feel like taking your time at the boutique to try everything on will be soo helpful. I'm unfortunately living in a city now without a boutique, so I had to rely on ordering them online one at a time. I feel like being able to try both on and really weigh the pros and cons in store will be so helpful. At the end of the day reading reviews online/seeing everyone else's photos or videos can only go so far! Good luck :)

100% this is how I feel. Where are you located that they do not have a boutique? How quickly do they ship? I made an appointment for Saturday but half of me debated having the bags shipped and then I could go return/exchange. However, I am not a good online shopper.

I'm in Seattle now, I couldn't believe there isn't a Dior boutique out here! We have a beautiful Nordstrom with Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, etc. etc. but no Dior :( I ordered the saddle in mid-December and there was a slight delay because they couldn't source it from their e-commerce center, but they were very quick to communicate about it and as soon as it shipped it was here in 2 days. Then I ordered the Bobby directly from the Beverley Hills store and it also came in about 2 days. I've had great experiences with the online ordering but much prefer shopping directly in boutiques generally so I can really get a feel for the bags on me personally.

I can't believe there is no Dior in Seattle. I am glad that they ship quickly. I am making my husband drive me to the city so that I can visit the boutique. I hate driving in downtown SF. I am originally from Chicago where it is so much easier to get around for lux shopping. I should have taken more advantage of that when I lived there.

Hi,

I completely go with everything said by @ATLbagaddict in the post above. I’ve never owned a Book tote and even though the totes have the most gorgeous prints it isn’t a practical bag for me personally.

I’ve owned the Saddle bag and sold it after 1 week. It’s absolutely stunning. However, it doesn’t fit much and it’s a bit of a Tetris game to get everything in. My biggest con with the Saddle was the opening/flap. The flap gets stuck underneath the strap every time you try to open it and if you don’t bend the flap under the strap the opening becomes very small and awkward. I also felt the Saddle was a little too “flashy” for my casual lifestyle. However the bag is beautiful and if a special one comes along I might repurchase it just as a collectors piece.

I love the Bobby which is no secret at all and I might be biased. I have two Bobbies already and plans to add two more. It is perhaps a slightly plain bag compared to the Saddle, but on the other hand it’s incredibly easy to use and certainly fits more. The opening is a bit more narrow than the bag itself, but to me it’s not a problem at all. It’s not any worse than a Chanel classic flap or a Lady Dior. The leather is surprisingly sturdy. For me and my lifestyle it’s the perfect bag and I’ve not used any other bag since I got it.

Good luck!
Hi @TwiggyM, seems like you're the resident dior bobby expert on this forum, wanted to get your opinion on something. I read that the bobby bag gets a small crease just above the buckle from the opening flap motion, and confirmed that a lot of the pictures on instagram show the small crease. What's been your experience with this?

I love the bobby look and have the one in dark tan though I haven't even gotten to wear it out yet. I'm debating if I should get another one before the price increase but having second thoughts. I don't want dior to discontinue the bobby / 30 montaigne like they did to diorama / jadior bag etc.

Hi,

thank you for your kind words, although I wouldn’t call myself an expert at all, haha! I just love the bag and happen to love it enough to get duplicates... I couldn’t tell you where the serial number is for the life of me and I can’t really say that I know much about Dior as a brand at all. It’s just that the Bobby really suits my lifestyle very, very well.

As for your question I have seen on my bags that they develop a few small lines and creases on the surface of the leather just above and behind the buckle. I think they’ve been there almost from the moment I bought them. They aren’t very noticeable (to me at least) and don’t seem to have softened or damaged the leather. I think it’s difficult to avoid as long as it’s necessary to bend the buckle slightly backwards to open the bag. To be honest I’m not bothered about it. I find that the whole buckle section itself is very stiff so it’s difficult to imagine that they would develop into big or deep creases/folds unless you really bend the buckle into unnecessary or unnatural angles.

I love the dark tan Bobby, what a rich and saturated colour! Lucky you! Hopefully you’ll get to use it out and about soon :) Honestly, if you’re uncertain about adding another I think in the long run it’s more expensive to panic buy something and then regret it rather than just buy it when you know for certain - even if there has been a price increase in the meantime. Just my two cents. Good luck!

Do you know if Dior in SF requires an appointment or open for walk-ins? I don’t have an SA and can’t find any info online

I made an appointment but I believe you can walk in. They also have a boutique inside NM from what I hear. I try to do all my shopping at Stanford or Valley Fair but no Dior there:( so I will be trekking to the city. What are you thinking of buying?

I was debating same as you, so would like to try in person! Honestly though, I’ll probably just buy a toile de juoy scarf haha.
