Did you stop buying/using contemporary bags once you go luxury?

No. I still buy contemporary bags. There are times I don’t want to carry a premier designer purse. Traveling, walking the dog, sporting events etc. I want to carry a bag that won’t upset me if something happens to it.
Makes sense to me. I just don't need to buy contemp bags for these purposes because I kept a few I already had.

I own both designer (Chanel, Dior, LV, BV, Gucci, YSL, etc.) and contemporary (Coach, Rebecca Minkoff, Furla). For me, I need both since I'm a mom and there are times when I wouldn't dare carry an expensive bag (like kiddie amusement parks). In the summer, I am more likely to wear my contemporary brands because of sun, sunblock, and water [emoji12].

That being said, I've stopped buying them. I'm focused on buying for the long term, so I look for classic styles that will stand the test of time as much as I can predict. I prefer buying fewer items now but each one must be quality.

I am tempted to get a Longchamp though. It's either that or a LV tote. Can't decide.

Almost all my bags are Coach (I love their 1941 line and bought quite a few of them this year), but I also really like the LH Longchamps Le Pliage totes. I have five of those, and use them a lot. I have a couple of nicer leather totes, but I don't find them any better than the LC. I'm toying with buying a NF in DA, but I'm worried that I won't like it nearly as much as the LC that costs about 1/10th of its price.

I feel the same way about the le Pliage vs. the Neverfull. I had a NF years ago that I sold, and can’t forget the two reasons why: the NF is an open tote so not as secure, and the straps are skinny and hurt my shoulder. The LP is a much more comfortable bag to wear!

My first expensive bag purchase was actually a Tod's pashmy tote (previous bags were all brandless, black, and waterproof ). My second and third bags were from Dior. My fourth was a miu miu satchel. Then I discovered kate spade and bought a couple of bags from them. I realised that certain lines from contemporary brands are actually very well made, and not ALL bags from premier brands are worth the money. So now, I usually pay for the design and quality, not for the brands.

I buy what I like. I mostly have premiere bags but I also have contemporary and some low end. Contemporary that I have bought in the last couple years include Furla, Michael Kors Collection, Alexander Wang, and Proenza Schouler. High end that I have bought in the last couple years include Fendi, Gucci, Valentino, Dior, LV, Burberry, Chloe, and Balenciaga. I have also bought a few low end bags mostly for going to baseball games, amusement parks, camping, etc. If I am going somewhere where the bag has the potential of getting dirty, I am going to carry a cheap but stylish bag.

I'm the opposite...I went from premier back to contemporary. Same as other posters, I like to keep a small collection of good-quality bags, and have found Alexander Wang and the Coach 1941 line to be of the same quality as premier designers. And I like that they don't have obvious branding. Just can’t justify spending $1500 more for a bag because it’s “premier”.

Helps though too that I don’t work and live a very casual lifestyle so these bags fit my life. It would be different if I was still in the work world.

Nope, I still buy contemporary, but I will say that I’m really picky with how much $$ I will put down on a contemporary brand and if I see myself using it longterm. The second requirement is important for any item I buy, regardless if it’s premier or contemporary. I dislike trendy items and I don’t want to wear anything that would look tacky on me 10 years from now.

I actually started off buying only LV and bought my first one over 10 years ago. Since then my tastes have changed (I don’t even own any LV bags anymore!) and I’ve grown to appreciate other brands which include contemporary and budget designers. Right now my collection has a little more contemporary than premier and I’m fine with that.

Also, I’ve noticed that a lot of contemporary bags tend to have nice bag designs with fewer logos. I’ve seen a lot of the opposite with premier bags lately, which I’m not too fond of.

I buy what I like! I definitely have bought contemporary after premier, and have enjoyed and loved them as much or even more than some of my premier. Indeed, I can’t really pick a top 5 out of my bags as I have LVs and Coaches in particular I adore too equally to choose!

Right now I have a mix of LV, Coach 1941, Kate Spade, a smattering of Longchamp, Vince Camuto, Cole Haan. I bought a lot of Coach 1941 this year as I think they are lovely - suede/leather linings, under the radar branding, quality construction and detail. The Rogue has to be one of my favorite bags ever - I have three regular Rogues, and one Rogue 25.

I am not buying any more bags right now as I am highly satisfied with my collection and am not lacking anything, but if I was looking I would be more likely to buy a Coach 1941 than an LV or another premier.

I do really like my NF and am happy to have it in my collection (I have DE with rose ballerine interior); but I rotate it regularly as a work tote with my LePliage and my Vince Camuto leather tote (my $55 CAD clearance bag!). I like all three of them, really, but choose my LC for travel everytime over the NF because of the weight, zipper, and long handle drop/comfort.

I just bought a NF (DA in RB). I don't think I'll carry it to the office (although there are 2-3 women on my floor who regularly carry one) and I'd probably use a LC LP for travel most of the time. I don't wear it as my main bag; it's my overflow tote. I don't have to baby it at all, worry if it gets wet, or worry that it may make me a target.

My NF will be a spring/summer weekend and social event bag. I'm glad I have both.
