Yes...but there's a "but!" He went with his mom to by my engagement ring and ended up with something completely different than anything we'd looked at (and I'd selected a couple of styles for him to choose from). :( After 5 years, we upgraded my ring, and I got what I originally wanted, in a size much larger than I would have expected when he proposed. I had to wait a little while, but I'm quite pleased.

I was engaged and got to go engagement ring shopping. It was very unromantic imo. I'm sure some woman fantasize about the ring, but it took the fun and surprise away. Clearly, though, the relationship wasn't meant to be. I don't know if this answer counts, as I'm no longer engaged.

I don't ever plan to replace it or upgrade.

Same here.

I think the word "upgrade" implies that the ring your fiance presented to you wasn't "good enough" for you. How can someone's heart and soul not be good enough? JMO, I'm not trying to make this into a debate.

I would have been entirely thrilled if my ring was a CZ purchased on e Bay for $5. It's the marriage and the love behind the symbol that matters, not the size of the stone on your finger.

basically DHs friend in Toronto made my ring. I knew DH was gonna propose and we looked at pics and walked around our local mall so i could try things on i basically said i wanted something in white gold, square shape w some side stones. i wound up w a cushion cut w baguettes on either side. then we had a band of baguettes made to go w it as a wedding band

No...my DH picked my ring out himself, and I am still in love with it 13 years later!
The only input that I gave him was that I liked pear shape diamonds and he did the rest.

I always knew even before I met DH that I wanted a 3-stone and he knew since the 2nd day we met :D. One day we went into the jewlery store to look at diamond earrings for him to get me for V-day and I kind of freaked about the price (we had only met 3 months earlier) and I was dragging him out of the store and he casually said, hey look here are the 3-stones show me what you like so one day when I propose I will know which you like. I always thought I wanted princess cut and yellow gold until he asked me to try the round in white gold since he liked it just to humor him. Well I did and I am so serious that my palms started SWEATING when I had the ring on! So I said I loved both equally and WHEN it was time he could decide which he liked better so he could have some imput. Little did I know he went back in the store the very next day to buy me the round.

I am so happy he did pick the rounds now and happy he got some imput but 5+ years later I kind of wish I never saw/knew anything and he picked it all out himself. I THINK he would have ended up getting me a large soliatire had he done it on his own though...

No, he did it on his own and I regret it because he has no clue when it comes to jewelry, dressing stuff and accessories....I got a 1.5 ct princess cut solitaire...which is nice but I wish I had had the opportunity of doing it with him...
