For those of you already engaged or married, did you go engagement ring shopping before you were engaged? If so, was there a ring that you just fell head over heels for?

Or if you did not help shop for your ring, did you love what he chose for you?

It's a lot of money, and I want to make sure I love it since I will keep it for the rest of my life. At the moment, I don't want to see myself upgrading in the future.

I'm so overwhelmed - any tips or favorite websites for ideas?

We went together and it was alot of fun!

We both had our input and ideas of what we each liked and we ended up both falling in love with the same ring, so it worked out and made it really easy!

We just went to a ton of jewelry stores in our area until we found someone we wanted to work with and then I tried on like 100's of rings just to see styles and what I liked on my finger... What I thought I liked changed alot once I saw some of the ring styles on my finger... It was a really fun and exciting experience, and Im glad we got to pick out the ring together, something we both love!

I think its different for everyone... some of my girlfriends didnt want to be involved at all and let the men pick out the ring, where others wanted to be involved and be apart of the process.

My dh picked out the ring by himself. It's just a classic round diamond on a 4-prong setting. I don't think you can go wrong w/ that, so I do love it. The whole proposal was a surprise, so I didn't get to go ring shopping w/ him. Now it's been 6.5 yrs, and I'm kind of looking to upgrade:graucho:

Sure did. And he took me before he even proposed so you can imagine my surprise when I thought he was taking me shoe shopping

Then he surprised me again with the proposal. We didn't get to take the ring home with us that day as it had to be resized and was due back in 3 weeks. I imagined he'd wait until we got it back to propose but nup, 2 days later on my birthday he went ahead and popped the question :p

I had my input and let him know specifically what I wanted: an oval solitaire. No room for negotiation. :) I made sure I sent him lots of "hints" (aka pictures with descriptions explaining THIS IS WHAT I WANT).

my answer isn't there, it's sort of. . .
when we first discussed marriage, for fun he took me in a store while we were already out shopping just to get an idea about what I liked.

we're currently shopping for the ring together ^__^. At first I didn't want to be a part of it and he really did try to surprise me. I had no idea that he was going to propose... but hes just bad at keeping secrets from me lol. But I am glad it turned out this way cause it is pretty fun ^__^ and he is more at ease. He says that it was difficult when he was shopping by himself cause he wanted to pick the perfect one and that he had been shopping for a couple months already.

Yes! It was great fun looking at rings together. I picked a very simple round solitaire on a plain white gold band. After our first daughter was born I replaced the setting with a Platinum Ritani setting. The proposal was a surprise, I didn't know when he would propose!

When he proposed to me it was with a "safe" ring. Something classic and safe. It was a beautiful lovely ring but it wasn't "talking" to me KWIM?? We later went and exchanged for something else and I love my new ring!! (And he does too!!) I can't stop looking at it and feels like it suits me peeerfectly!! Plus, I really enjoyed the experience looking for the ring together. I loved looking with my honey!! And I am in love with my new ring, she's beautiful!! The most perfect ring (in my eyes!!).:heart:
