I need to be stopped so help me! DH has authorized diamond earring purchase. Good pair will cost a decent chunk of cash. We will pay cash and not go into debt.

I am feeling guilty so stop me!!! Help me see the other side.

you can obviously afford them if you are not going into debt. i justify big purchases, but pointing out the things i don't spend big money on...maybe you don't drive a gas-guzzler, or maybe you don't color your hair...or maybe you have your car paid for....i try to find something that is positive, to offset any negative feelings about a big purchase. most of the time it works, but i don't make big purchases often.

i say enjoy! if hub says ok....even better!

:) Thank you. Yes, I don't drive a gas guzzler. No hair coloring, no expensive cosmetics.

I am feeling bad cos just recently I got into Chanel and CLs. I bought a few at once and paid cash for them of course. I just feel bad for having them. I was never into shoes, bought handbags at ross dress for less cos that is all I could afford comfortably.

Really? Would love some information. This is what I am seeking:

This is what I’d like:

Color: D-F (I will consider G).
Clarity: IF-VVS2
Size: 1.5 – 2 carat each (total 3-4 carats)

I don't know how much the ball park is for these babies. I really don't want them any larger than 1.7 carats each. 2 is too big!

My broker told me on ears go better color like D-F
You can go lower on clarity cause people don't look that close to them as
they might on your hand. IF's would be unbelievably expensive! You don't want DH to change his mind.
Spend the money getting "Ideal" cut instead, they will sparkle like crazy.
Can you find a place to try on 1.5 ct each ear? This size was too big for me & hung funny.
There is a jewelry show in Vegas coming up & another in September. At the Mirage. They have brokers that have everything. You could try on different sizes there.

we probably need to move this to Jewelry I guess if we're going to talk details! LOL!

I agree about not putting $ into that high of clarity for sure, but I don't agree w/ the color. . . I got F color for my ears and they're impossibly white. When you go for Ideal/excellent cut you can absolutely slide down on color as the cut more than makes up for it. ESPECIALLY in the ear, no one will be able to tell if it's a D-E or an F-G in your ear.

I'd search for:
F-G-H-I color
VS2-SI1 clarity
and perfect cut - do not chintz on that.

You know I am not going to talk you out of it. I love jewelry.

I agree with Swanky on colour, cut and clarity.

The last pair of earrings DH bought me were 2 carats, G colour, and gorgeous. Everyone compliments me on them.

i don't think you need to have perfect diamonds on your ears...on your finger, yes...but i think you could give a bit on the color and clarity, and still get some amazing earrings.

Thanks, this is good advice. I have no idea what they would cost so looking around..

Diamond earrings are classics that you can wear for the rest of your life and pass down to a daughter/niece.

If you factor in the "cost per use" and figure you will wear them 200 times a year for 10 years, it's worth it!
