Diamonds vs. colored gems: which do you prefer?

I think colored gems are so hard to shop for, namely they don't quite sparkle (unless lab created - totally different ball game!) and they can get more pricey than a diamond for a quality gemstone.

But if money wasn't an issue, rubies! Especially with yellow gold, so royal.

I love having the basics in diamond jewelry, ring, tennis bracelet, earingss, etc but my passion in colored stones is opals with a lot of color. Here are a few items..

My dream stone is a blue/ grey diamond. I love the sparkle of diamonds but also love colour so a combination of the two would be ideal for me. I think a cushion cut petrol blue diamond around 1.5-2 carats would be my dream... Sigh...

Definitely diamonds as they are my birthstone. Would absolutely love to find a significant big emerald and diamond ring but its not going to happen now. I've found several but each time there has been a significant problem.

I like pearls the best, then colored gems, then occasionally diamonds. I mostly only like diamonds on specific pieces, like I love them on watches and occasionally small ones on a gold ring. Otherwise I would rather have pretty colored stones.

Colored gems!! Love corundums (sapphires) - blue, pink, red and purple. Aquamarines, amethyst, tanzanites, iolites, raspberry garnets!! To me the beauty of the colors outweighs the sparkle of diamonds alone.

Now diamond and colored gems makes the most excellent pairing.

I already have a diamond ring..I was looking at etsy for another sapphire but my husband kept telling me not to look at the stone but the setting...so I ended up getting a platinum diamond ring...I still look for gorgeous sapphires now and then...
