I own a platinum Tiffany DBTY single diamond necklace. I bought it pre-loved, so at about half retail. Yes the diamond is small, but I own another bigger diamond solitaire that never brings on the "oohs" and "ahhs" my DBTY does. I think the dainty look is what makes it so pretty, and the diamond sparkles like crazy. It sits right on the depression under my throat.
I have owned it for about one year and have never taken it off... it is one of my favorite pieces.
All that to say, that yes, they are overpriced when picking a name brand but the style is class all the way! Enjoy your set!

I have two DBTY necklaces. The small diamond on the yellow gold chain. I wear them both together CONSTANTLY. I rarely take them off and I've had them for almost 7 years. They are delicate and go extremely well with other necklaces if you like to layer....
....the diamonds might be small but they are good ones, they sparkle like nobody's business and I get compliments more on these necklaces than with any others.
Expensive? Not really once you figure cost per wear. I think at this point I'm in the negative digits...LOL!!!!

..One more thing to consider when thinking about buying either the DBTY or another similar brand....
The chain on the Peretti DBTY is very delicate and fine. I've yet to find that with any other brand....and it's part of what makes this piece as lovely as it is.

S'Mom....thanks so much! I do think that layering will make me like this piece even more. It is a little different than the Tiffany (it is Paul Morelli, similar style and similar cost but a little different in the details). I will post a pic tomorrow...

well at first when I tried on the tiffany dbty i thought for sure it was expensive because of the brand name. then I went to a custom design place where I basically get wholesale prices. I was told that the cost of the materials + the cost of labour + the cost of diamonds (same clarity and colour) equaled almost what I paid at tiffany. I was told by the office manager that the cost to custom (hand made) a bezel is not worth it, he said unless you have the machines (which cost around $150,000.00) to machine make the perfect bezel you will be spending money on custom fees and labour fees to achieve the perfect bezel like tiffany makes. so in the end....I bought my platinum dbty with 3 stones at tiffanys lol. i got the name brand for 100.00 more then the custom made dbty with no wait time.
This subject reminds me of the movie "A Perfect Murder" with Paltrow/Douglas. She wore a single DBTY necklace throughout the movie along with that gorgeous Cathy Waterman
