Diamond clarity S1-S3... would you pass?

I think you should get it due to these reasons:

- diamonds are small, like many stated, it won't make a huge difference

- you wrote that the price is what the piece is worth without diamonds, (so diamonds at all are a bonus no?)

Also, are oyu considering reselling it soon? If not, why should you worry about the dquality of the diamonds? If the price is right and you want it, get it!

Although I quality diamonds are not good for larger stones such as those used in engagement rings for example, for the type of jewelry item you are looking at I think it is fine. Especially if you have seen it in person and it looks fine to you that is what matters. If you are not planning to resale the necklace then you have nothing to worry about. I was looking at diamond wedding bands at Zales and Whitehall Jewelrs and saw that pretty much everything they have is I quality but there were no large inclusions. On the other hand I went to Ultra Diamonds and was disgusted by the I quality diamonds they were selling (huge ugly black inclusions).

Bottom line: Buy it if it looks good and the price is right.

Hello guys, I wasn't able to visit the forum the past few days. Thank you all so much for the advice. I really do appreciate everybody's opinion but in the end I decided to pass. I did take a friend to come see it with me and she, like many people here, told me it was an OK piece of jewelry if I was just buying it for fashion. This really put me off because even though I do not plan to resell, I have this romantic idea that one day when I'm old my granchildren will inherit my stuff (LOL). Anyway, I called my mom and he told me NO WAY you're buying that. She recommended that I wait and eventually the right pendant will come by. PS If anybody knows of or has seen a circle of life pendant PLEASE let me know!!

I think you can find very pretty SI2 to I1 pendants if they are eye clean, cut well, and a good color, just keep looking and don't let the grades completely define what you chose, it's ultimately how it looks with smaller stones like that. If you were purchasing a solitare that would be a different story.....

I think you have summed things up particularly well!!!

thanks, everyone gets WAY too caught up in the grades, first of all, just because a chain jewelery store says a non-certified diamond is a certain grade doesn't mean it can't be better especially when it looks good, it's a liability to them if they present something as a better quality than it is so many times they will say it's a lesser quality in their "bulk" jewelery. One of my experiences, for example with my engagement ring diamond...... I never in a millions years expected to buy my stone at a Helzberg but I went into the diamond districts, and various other places and just didn't find the emerald cut diamond that looked they way I pictured and we were young and couldn't spend a TON of money, everything that was sort of what I wanted was over $10,000 and CASH and this was dealing on more of a wholesale level through a friend..... I walked into a Helzberg Diamonds Store one day on a break during school and saw a non-certified solitare ring (which I just took the stone from) at a "special" price with 0% financing, it looked exactly like I wanted but it was not said to be anywhere near the grade I wanted for an emerald cut solitare stone, they said it was an SI2. We looked at it under a microscope and saw only one tiny needle inclusion that couldn't be seen in the face of the stone. Long story short, we had it certified by GIA and it came back as a VVS2, yes VVS not VS. So like I said, if it looks pretty (and the price is right) it may be worth taking a chance! Diamonds, though many people will say are, in my opinion are NOT investments, you may not loose money on them but you certainly will make more in your 401 K or money market account IMHO! Plus I'm not in the business of trading in my wedding rings so I don't really care what kind of value I get out of it in 10 years, I love the way it looks and it's my ring!

Most upscale jewelery like georg jensen, tiffany, cartier, scott kay, etc., regularly use VS in their small stones, VS is a very good quality and more than enough for a small stone to have a beautiful fire, nevermind larger stones too!

Totally agree with that, it really all depends on the size of the stone G VS is totally ok with me.
