DHL lost my So Black Birkin 30 - Need advice

I had 2 packages being shipped (by FedEx, not DHL, but it may be a relevant experience). One was sent with 2 day shipping and arrived over 2 weeks later, the tracking number changed once, and for days at a time it said no updates were available. The other package was $500 of contact lenses from Walgreens, a company that certainly has shipping figured out in normal times. That package was supposed to arrive with 3 day shipping and took almost a month. I kept checking the tracking and it was just sitting in one spot for ages. I filed a case for the contacts to see what was going on because I really needed them. FedEx looked into it and they said they located the package and knew which truck it was on, but that they did not have the staff available to unload the trucks. It sat there for another 5 days (in one location for about 2 weeks, somewhere in the Midwest). It finally broke free a few days ago and arrived the next day. Maybe there is still hope?

I feel like a lot of the messages here, while direct and insightful, are a bit too straightforward. I'm sure OP already feels bad and doesn't need more tough love. Please feel better, OP!

I also had a huge package shipped from Asia to the US recently and it was stuck at the UPS worldhub in Kentucky for 2 weeks before it finally cleared and got to me. I think it was a mix of holiday package traffic & also the recent tornado that devastated that area. Perhaps Cincinnati also got hit by the same tornado? I'm crossing my fingers that your package might turn up.

I think you missed the point that OP seemed to be accepting that she would not see the bag or a return of her money. OP needed to be shown the way to get something back.

Most posts have been sympathetic to her plight, yet reinforcing the dangers of direct wire transfer for the benefit of others.

BeenBurned picked up the point I made about the reseller refunding the profit.
I agree completely that OP should have a full refund, but I was trying to get OP into the frame of mind to undertand that she should be less sympathetic to the reseller and not accept loosing everything.
100% agreement to everyone asserting that the reseller is running a business and has to accept the responsibilities.

Perhaps the reseller, with the agreement or tacit undrstanding of OP, had previously shipped goods with a 'lower than value' declaration to reduce or avoid import charges and had just continued their previous practice.

@northerndancer Per the tracking, the clearance was processed already. And thank you all for the suggestions, whether it's tough love or comforting words, I appreciate you taking your time and offering me possible solutions. And I agree with all of you, I was treading on dangerous waters by doing transaction via wire transfer and it only takes one incident to sink the boat. I will figure things out with the seller and I'm sure we all learned from this unfortunate event, that you will do the exact opposite of what I did.
I would not give up hope yet that this bag is lost. With the pandemic and the weather disrupting the distribution chains, a delay of a month or more is possible. If it is possible to contact customs in Cincinnati, it might be worth checking to see if they are holding a package addressed to you just in case your item was improperly scanned. By underdeclaring and underinsuring, it is normally the seller who is taking risk. However, when wire-transfer is used for payment the risk gets transferred to the buyer. It sounds like these risks were mutually agreed between you and the seller so IMO, the fair thing to do might be for you to split the loss. But not yet.....keep hoping. And good luck.

I’m definitely not missing the point here. I agree with what’s been said by the posts before me (hence the thumbs-ups) but it seemed like some just kept repeating the same lessons. I’m just putting myself in OP’s shoes, and I’d be grateful to hear those lessons but at the same time it’s like rubbing salt in a wound. Just trying to give her a break with my comment

I think people are ”repeating” because opinions were asked and since this is a big forum then a lot of opinions will be given.

You might want to check to see if customs has confiscated it, because they recently have seized mine and now i am currenting fighting them to get it back even though its 100% a genuine chanel handbag. If customs has your package you might want to look into getting a customs lawyer to retrieve it, but that just means that will be more money out of your pocket. Im so sorry this is happening to you, and i feel your pain 100%. I wish i had better advice for you.

I'm sorry this happened to you too. How did you find out it was the custom who took it?

In my limited experience: within two weeks there is still a possibility that the precious bag will turn up. I had this with a DHL package too. It went missing for nearly a month and I filed a claim. It subsequently did turn up (with lots of stickers on the item). I really hope that your bag will find its way to you.

Dhl gave me the runaround telling me it was inspected and released and being shipped back to the original sender and this morning another told me it had been seized thats why there is no movement or updates on tracking.

It's gonna be tough battle and I sure hope you win. @shoegal1983 I contacted DHL through multiple platforms even on their IG and they are saying they couldn't locate the bag. I came across another girl who had a similar experience where her Kelly was lost and her theory was the bag got stolen because it was no insurance on it.
