I buy most of my jewellery from my local jewellers who also make jewellery on the premises. For my costume jewellery I always go to the little boutiques.

I don't like to pay the premium for designer jewellery, as I am only paying for the name of the brand.

Alot of the jewellery I have bought from my jewellers has been a custom design piece and has cost alot less than the piece I originally wanted by a well known designer.

it depends. For something fun that I wear less often, maybe a non brand would suffice since I'd get tired of it easily and wouldnt fell guilty that it sits in my jewelry box. If it's just diamond studs, of course non brand since it cost so much less for the same thing.

But for things like my engagement ring, I keep it to Tiffany's because only they have the lucida cut and that's what I love.

Personally if I am the one buying I typically go with non branded jewellry because I just can't afford the designer stuff, but someday when I am not a poor student I will mix it up. I would LOVE to have a peice or two of designer jewellry!

totally depends, IPHO (^(oo)^)v

all of my "statement" jewellery is from a designer brand, as I don't feel non-branded statement jewellery can approach the level of creativity, innovation & attention to detail apparent in a hand-worked piece from a designer jeweller, who has the advantages of:
  1. long history of craftsmanship, deep understanding of the potential & the limitations of the raw materials
  2. deeper pockets of cash reserves to fund either R&D or to allocate capital to riskier, more daring design projects
  3. clearly discernible brand style and "signature" looks (e.g. VC&A mystery setting)
in contrast, if i'm looking to buy a "classic" style like an eternity band, diamond hoop earrings, tennis bracelet, etc, i definitely would *not* go with a designer jeweller. i do, however, like to buy my classic pieces from Hearts on Fire, as I personally find their diamonds noticeably more sparkly! yay! piggies love sparkle! \(^(oo)^)/

I like some designer pieces from Cartier and VCA - I would be happy to wait and save for these pieces, I appreciate the originality of the designs. There are a pair of earrings by Tiffany that I like but they aren't branded - they're just woven yellow gold hoops with a link that I really like. They used to have them in white gold as well and I'd buy them if they came back in store.

Most of my jewellery is non-designer. I have had a number of pieces custom-made by a local jeweller - it's certainly more affordable.

Till sofar we seem to have an equal preference for designer jewelry and non branded jewelry! We seem to make sensible choices: mostly non branded for diamond rings for example. And branded for signature and specific pieces.

I would love to hear even more opinions!!!!

I completely agree with you!

I have a lot of non brand ready made and custom made fine jewelry, it is definately more affordable. Now I wish for and want more designer pieces because I am over quantity, I want something special ,that is rare mainstream because of the cost. I am dreaming about Tiffany, VCA, Cartier.

Especially with custom made you can design very special pieces. But I do understand what you mean. Larger jewelry house are able to design pieces that smaller designers can't as they lack the material or resources.
Especially with non branded custom made jewelry you can design very original pieces with your jeweller. But I do understznd what
