Designer jewelry or non brand??? What's your preference and why?

Designer jewelry or non brand (perhaps vintage or custom made) jewelry for you?

  • Designer jewelry is my thing! I dream of Pomellato, VCA an Tiffany

I have a mix...

I don't believe jewelry has to be branded to be worthy of purchase. The majority of my gemstone jewelry purchase is from my local jeweler.

I do have a few Tiffany pieces and one Cartier. I would like to add more. I chose/want these pieces for the 18k factor and classic factor.

I am in love with my local antique / vintage jewelry shop. It's also possible to design your own jewelry. For example based on a chunky pearl or beautiful diamond. This jeweller is very personal, they know my taste and they always have something special.

Though I must admit that I dream of Pomellato stacking rings at the moment. And... we have a newly opened Tiffanys now!!

I buy both designer and non-brand. Mostly the non-brands have been loose diamonds I have had earrings/rings made from. I know what I like in loose stones so I go to my personal jeweler who always has a variety to view.

both, but for substantial pieces, non-branded. I don't like paying a massive premium for a stamp :D
I can find equal quality or better for far better prices.

:graucho: I agree Swanky! Non branded offers great price/quality! There's no way I could have been able to afford my solitair (5.3 carat) from let's say Cartier.
I agree as well, I have a combination of both and buy tiffany or david yurman for the classic design pieces, and small local stores because they allow you to bargain or make a deal on unique one of a kind pieces

Non-branded generally... coming from a family of jewelers (but not having the knowledge myself!), I feel silly paying such a huge markup for something when I can get equal or better quality for considerably less money. That said, I LOVE Chopard and if money were no object, would probably have many Chopard pieces... the floating diamond pieces fit my style perfectly! I personally have never seen the appeal in Cartier (just watches! :smile1:), Tiffany's, etc... probably a good thing on one hand, but on the other hand, I'm sure I make up for it somewhat in my shoe/handbag/clothing preferences. :smile1:

If you know what you want...buy a non-brand diamond then have it set in a designer setting. As long as the designer agrees to use your stone, you'll save. Big name designers make their money on bigger diamonds.

I don't typically go for branded unless it's a really specific specialty that cannot be found elsewhere/replicated anywhere.

I know you can get stones just as great as Hearts on Fire that are just as highquality for far better value if you don't buy the brand. So for things like that, Id go with the nonbrand.

i feel the same. and then when designer jewelry gets knocked off or copied for way less, it really takes away from having something different. When it is not out and out bling i prefer pieces i see in gallery shops - unique, different and always eye catching.
