Designer handbags without a zipper, WHY?????

I prefer any closure other than zippers....I think they fail too often for a bag that should last decades.
....most of the nicer bags I have, I'm thinking Hermes and Fendi, use another type of main closure. My Prada has a zipper and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it holds up.

I'm in Boston and can say lots of people of all incomes use the T (aka subway) here. Driving is a real pain here! I like having the option of securely closing my bag whether on public transportation or just walking around the city.

I'm in Toronto and don't drive and never have - we didn't even have a car until I was over 50, and even now only my husband drives (he has to because his job isn't accessible by transit). Parking in the building I work in is $35 a day and that isn't the most expensive in the area.I don't know anyone other than the executives who get company paid parking who drives to work.

I see loads of designer bags (maybe not the highest end, but a good assortment of LV, Coach, MK and so on) on the subway. I have to say I though that I didn't understand the appeal of the fad a few years ago of see-through bags!

Some designer bags with zip tops: 1) YSL Cabas - ideal b/c you have the option of zip or snap and can't really see the zip: 2) Balenciaga generally (the City and Town, at least); and 3) Fendi Chameleon.

I think the see through had more to do with the scanners for weapons and such being enforced in school and work areas. It just made things easier to search if it was all see through. :-)

I just got a Kate spade with no zipper or button to keep the bag closed. Well, I like the style and it was on sale. Lol. However, I would prefer some thing to keep the bag opening together. I feel safer.

I honestly don't like zippers. I have the Burberry Haymarket Check that is a open top tote, and MK Hamilton that has a snap tap closure, one Rabeanco that have flaps, and my Zanellato Postinas have only flaps and a turn lock. I used to like zippers but now find them troublesome. I like to access my belongings quickly and fuss free.

most of my bags have zippers, which is fine, but recently i have found it to be troublesome esp when travelling with kids by plane. my LV graceful(as seen in the pic) is a magnetic closure and im waiting to receive my purse organizer to put inside it. lets see how the snap works with the organizer inside. im also awaiting deliver of my tory burch robinson shoulder tote which is an open design with lots of pockets inside but most importantly it has a middle zipper diving the bag for the important stuff like walllets and passports. anyone else have the tory burch robinson tote???

Oo I was just thinking about this question today as two people came up to me over the past few days to compliment my ysl sac de jour nano and both made the same comments "pity there's no zip"!

Hate bags with no zip closure.
Don‘t think that I am an economical failure because I own a car and use it to get out of the city but will not use the car when getting around in the city. Public transportation is great whereas using a car always causes a nervous breakdown- traffic jams, no parking. By metro I know how long it takes me to get to any point in the city. By car it can vary from 30 minutes to three hours. So no! Can not confirm any relation between using a zipped bag and being cheap.

my thing is I live in a very rainy city so I want a purse that zips up all the way so my contents don't get wet. Does anyone know of a Kate Spade large bag with full zip enclosure that doesn't have a stiff bottom? I use a wheelchair and want to tuck it in next to me so it is secure.. TIA

I can’t think of any Kate spade with a full zip. The Knott tote dos have a zip in the centre and perhaps you could live with that? There’s a coach tote called a Juliet that has a full zip and a soft slouchy style leather. If you’re a coach fan? IMG_6367.jpeg

Someone once said that zippers are very expensive to put into a product.
But the cheapest things have zippers... I dont know. Maybe it has further reasons. I think it also has something to do with the material.
Though I am sure it has also something to do with production costs. Isnt it all about cost at the end?

A hobo and a tote are beloved classics since the invention of carrying bags/handbags, a category of goods that evolved from--wait for it--pockets. The zipper is way, way, way later.
