Designer bags: obvious or understated?

It's my money, so I buy what I like with no thought about how others will perceive me or why they think I bought the bag. I have bags with bling/logos, that are brand recognisable(to non-bag enthusiasts) and some that are not. If you are not helping my pay for my bags then your opinion doesn't matter.

Understated - always have been. I buy bags for their function, but they happen to always be high end designers because I only shop at those places. (I don't like shopping so I hit a few stores where I have great SAs and can get done quickly.) Frankly, I use brand as a shortcut for quality and if it isn't, the customer service is such that I usually get satisfaction; I stop being a customer if I don't get the service I expect.

Obvious - I like bags with iconic designs and patterns. I agree with your friend who doesn't buy understated bags. After all, you're paying for the brand. Can you honestly say that designer bags are more sturdy and functional than non-designer bags? So if I were just into sturdy and functional, I would a buy a non-designer bag, it's like $700 cheaper. But like what the others have posted, it's your money so you should buy whatever bag you want.

I like understated, I have ruled out some things because they feel too popular and recognizable. I think Celine bags are pretty, but many of them are really played out and feel a little walking stereotype to me.

But I think a key requirement of a luxury bag is to make you feel special.

There are many bags that don't feel very premium and have a premium price.

For me, after a ton of thought, I realized what I really like is for a bag to be functional, for people to think "nice bag" without worrying too much about it. I just want my bag to say "she looks put together." But it doesn't need to make a statement. I wear enough pattern and color to do that, so the only statement my bag need to make is "that's nice." :)

I am neutral. I see nothing wrong to have something discrete or loud ornate design wether it monogram or not.

I do get tired of hearing people who claim they are minimalist and complain about wearing monogram isn't fashionable and it too loud for you where it look ridiculous to just gain attention and I see this person wearing a predominant H belt from Hermes or a Ferragamo logo belt on them. To me people like that are no different to gain "attention". :p

Just don't over do it with prints. And don't be too concern of brands, status and exclusivity alone than you look ridiculous. That ruins the perception of wearing monogram prints or wearing luxury goods in general. :)

and this is why i don't want to buy an H belt...I own Chanel, Givenchy, LV, Celine, etc. but I find the H belt so tacky but I don't mind LV monogram. I guess I feel bc my bags are often a statement piece a loud belt will be too much.

So I have both subtle non-label bags---fendi 2jour and some loud logo bags like LV vernis alma. It all depends on my mood.

At this time of my life, I don't care if my bags scream designers. I have an LV Sobe clutch with a big golden LV logo on the flap. I also have Fendi Chameleon bag that no one recognizes as a designer bag and I also have other bags with little to no brand recognition. Who cares?! If you wear monogram and people think you're a show off, it's their problem. Wear what you like, carry what you want. Life is too short to care what other people think. Everyone who carries a designer bag wants to feel special and if the monogram makes you feel special then rock it!

I love my sobe's and now want a Louise clutch. I love the big obnoxious hardware:laugh: I like hardware--sue me:laugh::laugh:

I fall somewhere in between, as I think it almost depends upon the brand and design itself... i do have some very signature(logo) pieces(Wallets) but just as many that while they are not 100% logo free it's not in your face at all and would require someone to be interested in purses to take note.

As some have said if you know the designer it being adored with a logo wouldn't matter as it's mere shape/design is enough to be identified. I am rather partial to a leather handbag so that results in the majority of my bags not being heavily logo in design.

Yes! I say "How about this, I worry about my spending habits and you worry about yours"

My bags are my one indulgence - they really make me feel put together and happy. Everyone needs that, as long as it is within their means.

I recently purchased a LV Speedy & feel so chic. I would have never bought one in the past because I thought everyone had one, so obvious logo, but the more I looked at the mono speedy the more it grew on me. I love carrying it.

But I also love my Chloes & Bottega Veneta. They are not obvious logo, but so well made - the leather on those bags are so quality. Those who do not know bags have no idea the price of it!

More understated but still recognizable if you know what to look for

+1. I buy what I like. I have a wide range of designer bags. I'm not naive and think people don't notice or judge when I carry my LVs or Burberrys, but I don't care nor react.
