This is very true.

Marilyn Monroe was truly unique. She had that undefinable "something" which very, very few have. She's mesmerising on screen.

True. MM is an American girl-next-door classic. But for today’s modern times, seems like Sydney Sweeney fits the bill. Men seem to know about her. Lol And her hosting gig for SNL made her popular.

Not sure who would be a proper replacement for the cover of People magazine though as the most beautiful woman. I agree that it is disappointing to see Hollywood actresses resort to the knife to look young or get decent roles. I just saw Michelle Pfieffer on TV and her jawline also looks snatched.

Usually the thought is, women of all ages would purchase the magazine to see what Demi Moore does to maintain her looks and stay relevant esp with fickle Hollywood. It had me wondering what she did to stay looking good (but I use the internet, who buys magazines now?!). 😆

Not every large chested blonde woman need to be compared to Marilyn. I can’t think of anyone who truly has the same vibe.
And certainly not Sydney who is super confident while Marilyn was always doubting herself.

Agreed.

These two ladies are worlds apart and from very different eras, and it's not fair to compare them.

Marilyn, though, did have that certain something which I don't think anyone else had, in quite the same way. But that's normal, we are all unique.

I'm a fan of the old films, though, so my view is biased towards the actresses and actors of those!

Same here. Plus I read numerous Marilyn bios. She had a child like vulnerability that made her both touching and super appealing to men.
Plus, like you wrote above she oozed “it” and charisma. I don’t really see any actresses today who play on both vulnerability and sexiness, let alone possess Marilyn’s physicality..

It’s unfair to compare anyone to Marilyn. Remember, Marilyn didn’t become an icon until after her death at a young age. She was a popular movie star to be sure, but she was far from being revered or respected. It happens a lot in pop culture, but especially back then, where a famous person is put on a pedestal in death if they died young and tragically (and still attractive). James Dean, JFK, and Princess Diana are other examples. Had any of them lived out their full lives, they would not be perceived in the same way they are today. All of them had flaws that were glossed over when they died.

I think Demi looks beautiful. I’ve thought that since the first time I saw her on General Hospital in the 80s.

She is not naturally aging however in my eyes, she is beautiful.
I can’t think of any actresses or even regular women in my circle aging “naturally”.
What for?
I don’t want to look in my mirror, putting mascara on, looking unkept. It is not for me.
I am surprised at your statement. I know a number of much younger women who do Botox…preventative Botox, I guess. They are in my stepdaughter’s age group…late 30s. My sister-in-law had a boob job and then a revision years later, and Botox. But I’m not aware of any of my friends having procedures. I am turning 74 in a few weeks…I have had nothing “done” but I do take care of my skin and inherited good genes. I have, of course, noticed increasing signs of aging on my face, but when I look in the mirror I really don’t think I look unkempt! But, to each their own! :flowers:

I wonder if your generation is less prone to get “treatments” than mine, Gen X. Or maybe I am part of a vain posse:giggle:
I am always delighted to hear about women, whom I would have never suspected to have gotten plastic surgeries, admitting to it.
I found it sincere and helpful.
If you look great and are happy while looking at the mirror, it is all that matters:flowers:

Catherine Deneuve, IMO one of the most beautiful & alluring woman in the world at every stage of her
life, has had some facial surgery much to the dismay of the French people so rumored.
She is 81 years of age & is spectacular looking & she is in a new movie The President's Wife.

She did have a few rumored facelifts but also had an AVC in 2019.
She has such a fun role in that movie.
And her style is an inspiration, imo.
