Delvaux bags?

Hi Ladies! I am new to posting here but I love bags!!
Delvaux used to have a classic image but now attract all age groups. I bought one recently with a vitello finish (fur like feel) and it is extremely well made. Have several Hermes etc. so wanted to try a Delvaux. Got way too many envious looks which means it is a beauty!
What are the prices like, Arta? Are they close to Hermes or are they comparable to another brand? Don't think I'll be in Belgium anytime soon (or even if there will be a Belgium to visit soon!).

The last time I was in Belgium (in Brugge, to be exact), I found one particular Delvaux bag that I loved (the name of which I can't now recall, but if I can find a pic, I'll link to it) and priced it at €1500. I get a sense that the basic Delvaux designs start around that price level, and the wilder / rarer the treatment of the leather, the higher the price goes. Some bags I saw in the window of the Brugge store were in the €2500-3500 range, and I believe a number went considerably higher.

They also do very nice briefcases. :)

Sorry I can't be of more help. But in all cases the workmanship and style of the bags were fabulous. Better, I think, than Hermes (and I'm a big Hermes fan: I have a ton of their scarves and a couple of their shawls).

Best! -- DD

Hi Hovercraftier - sorry was away from the board for a few days. The bag I have is about 2000 euros. The quality is very good - I like the fact that the bags are light and not heavy as some of the Hermes bags.

:crybaby:

That's too bad... I will be going to Belgium next month and was seriously considering buying a Delvaux (because I'll never be able to buy a Birkin, and I've read that Delvaux makes bags of comparable quality and timelessness. Plus nobody knows about them in the U.S.)!

I'd only buy if I could see myself using that bag for the next 10 years - or beyond. (I am 28 years old.)

The current bags are at http://www.delvaux.be/index_en.html - click on "In Collection," then "Leather." I'm liking the last one on the third row, the first one on the fourth row, and the third and fourth on the last row. Which, if any, would be a solid investment?

Thanks in advance!

I think the last one on the third row (Tempete MM) is a very classic piece that I could see my grandmother having given me and if I were to buy that now, me giving a next generation. It's rather timeless!

Hi guys! Delvaux is indeed often compared to Hermès. I used to be a big fan of the brand untill they begun to modernise everything yuck! They have a really nice collection tough! If you are in Belgium, do not forget to ask in the store for a wallet cald: diabolo. Its a small one-compartiment wallet but fits quite alot, even my traincards and stuff so... In normal leather it's about 87 euro's... You can get a fabulous one in ostrich for about 450!! Great prices!
Just a small tip if you are ever here :-) bye bye

oh yeah before I forget: they have bags starting at 600 euros too!

How does the leather wear on these bags? Does it scratch/stain/scuff easily, or take it all in stride and look better for it. I am loving some of these designs, and I've heard they can now be had in the states at Barneys New York in NYC.

Delvaux do lots of different types of leather Jumping, Box, Destrier etc so it will depend on which type of leather and what bag you choose.

I have a textured box leather Hannelore, it seems as tough as old boots (if you will excuse the phrase :shame:) It's supposed to be a day clutch but I've mostly used it in the eves so it doesn't exactly get 'thrown around' like an everyday bag. If it wasn't textured i would be worried about scratches.

Delaux are handmade, finest quality items, built to last but also to be taken care of, I think if you are looking specifically for hardy try the bags in the Jumping leather.

How would you compare them to say Loro Piana bags?

Very good question, I walked past the LP shop the other day and wanted to go in as I don't know Loro Piana bags at all. Next time I'm in town I shall have a look but of course my assessment will only be from viewing, not owning (unless one really grabs me :p). I hear they are lovely from people who do own them.

I want to look at the new Bvlgari Rossellini bags too (the store is in the same street). They are also supposed to be handmade but they don't look structured enough for my liking. I like my hobos soft as poss but my handbags rock-solid.

As we say,bumping this thread.

I have acquired a vintage Delvaux brilliant,or brillant. This is the iconic bag of this company.

How do you find out how to clean/care for delicate leather bags. Its a gorgeous classic 50,s style, but i have no ocasion to use it/how do i keep it looking good.

There is so little information about these bag, they are quite rare
