Today Was A Fairy Tale is a must have, IPHO! It's the only Lippmann I bought a backup for (^(oo)^)I got a gift card and was thinking about getting a couple of DL polishes. Does she have any "staples" I should get. I did want Glitter in the Air, but it is sold out now![]()
I got my Ruby Red Slippers yesterday and I have to say, compared with LSTB and ATU I found it difficult. I shook it well, but found it hard to get any of the bigger glitter particles, and at 3 thickish coats it looked a big crunchy mess.
There is LOTS of micro and small round glitter, so it still looks way more glittery than RB: ReVamp (Black Russian) or CG Lubu Heels, but on me, it doesn't look like the swatches online. It seems that if I put enough on to get some of the hex particles, there's too much black which hides them.
Is RRS more difficult to work with than the other two, is its big glitter sparser/harder to see, is there such a thing as a bad bottle? it was from the same supplier as the other two.

Yours looks how I hoped mine would!that's really strange . . . can you take a picture of your bottle? I wonder if they changed the glitter ratio b/c I definitely had no problems getting good glitter coverage with mine (purchased last year). Here's 2 coats over a black creme:

I've attached pics of my bottle, with & without flash, & the bottom in case that reveals pertinent information

I know I need more practice, but I was impressed with ATU, TWAF and LSTB even with my crummy technique, and RRS didn't quite live up to my expectations having tried those. Did you get yours quite recently too?Yours looks just like the one I had. But I never used it so I wouldn't know if the consistency is the same. I find that sometimes, I just have problems with DL's glitters. Sometimes I dip the brush in and what comes out is great with lots of big hex glitters. But sometimes I dip in and get nothing. For me, I think I just need more practice.
Hmm, the plot thickens!![]()
heres my bottle - I think the big glitter might be slightly more obvious
It came from the same eBay seller as my others, all of which have the 10011 code on the bottom. There's only one shop in the entire UK that sells DL, the Westfield branch of House of Fraser (huge new mall on the western edge of London, where I never go).hmm . . . it actually looks like mine has more chunky glitter pieces vs smaller glitter - I wonder if it's because mine is in a bottle with black writing and the ZIP on the label is 10013, not 10011 . . . maybe they've switched manufacturers or slightly changed the formula?
Where did you purchase yours? Mine is from Neiman Marcus . . .

Thanks for posting those swatches! it looks great over black, and that's something I was meaning to try (I got a bottle of cheap black polish specifically for layering under Nfu Oh flakies and this is in a similar vein)
My reason for plastering it on that thickly was to try and get some of the larger hexagonal glitter particles. I see from your photos that although there's plenty of microglitter and small glitter particles, you didn't get many hex particles either and that kind of answers my question (ATU and LSTB did seem to have more hex glitter).
It's not that the polish itself is gloopy/goes on thick, it's that I was having trouble getting any of the hex particles to come out, so I'd slapped it on with a trowel.
