I have a silly question... I love DE print for handbags, because I like how it goes with everything, it's worry free and not too flashy. I don't have any monogram bags yet, but I hope that at some point I will have at least one (all my LV bags are DE now). I'm thinking of getting a first SLG for Christmas - a Clemence wallet. I'm having the hardest time deciding on the print, because:

  • I know that there is a huge possibility that I would get all SLGs in the same print... And to get an idea I want to get the Clemence, a Mini Pochette, a Key Pouch, a Cosmetic Case, an Agenda MM and maybe also a Pochette Accessoires at some point (and not all at once, but that would be within a couple of years time).
  • I will use my SLGs for every bag I have, not just LV bags, and my other bags don't have any patterns; they are usually pretty neutral: black, brown, nude or red. I'm not the kind of person who has a collection of wallets, so I won't rotate them (with smaller bags I'll just use the key pouch as a mini wallet). I love handbags, but with SLGs I just want ones that are durable and practical.
  • I'd love DE SLGs with my DE bags, but I'm not sure if they would still look so great in my other bags. I think Mono SLGs would look good in those neutral bags, but I'm not sure about the Mono SLGs with DE bags...
  • I love DE print especially paired with shiny gold hardware, however, I think monogram looks very cute on SLGs.
  • With Clemence Mono my only worry is with the interior... The only one I like is Fuchsia, but that doesn't necessarily "go" with any of my bags. I'm also worried that it might be dated and won't hold it's charm as well as red. To me red is just timeless and it's a colour I might enjoy even 20 years from now, and I'm just worried fuchsia might be "too cutsey" later on in my life. Or maybe I should just go for a different wallet? In mono I've always liked the Sarah Wallet, because I think it's beautiful and classic. But then it's a lot more expensive and I don't really need all those card slots. I only like long wallets (ones where I can put my bills without folding them), but at the same time ones that aren't too bulky. I generally prefer flap wallets to zip wallets, but I think zip wallets hold better over time and flap wallets tend to crack in the place when you fold them (that's why I'm getting one for Christmas, because my current wallet did that - and it wasn't an LV wallet, but every single flap wallet I've had did crack in the same spot).
  • Wouldn't it be weird to get SLGs in a print I have no bags with?

So what do you think I should get? DE or Mono?

Tell me which ones you prefer and why? Or maybe you like to mix your SLGs and get both prints? TIA!

I always gravitate towards DE if it is between DE and mono. I also don't like to match all my slgs with my bags. I like seeing the mismatched explosion of LV slgs inside my bag.

I am partial to mono SLGs. I also have the clemence in fuchsia and do love it. It is not a bright tacky pink and the only hint of pink when closed is the zipper pull. I had a de cles that the corners wore to black quickly (so did my speedy b 25). I sold as soon as it started because my mono one still looks new after almost year of use. I have a mix of DA, DE and mono LV bags as well as Cuyana leather totes and my new Mansur Gavriel bucket in black. I use my SLGs with all of them! You can always get the Clemence in mono and a DE slg the next time :)

Thanks for you reply! I generally always go for DE instead of mono (as I said, all of my bags are DE), but as I don't have any monogram pieces yet, I find myself strangely drawn to them... I guess it's ok to have mixed prints for SLGs, maybe I'm creating problems where there shouldn't be any, as always! :p

I have a mix of prints for SLG's. I don't feel I need to match my SLG's to my bags and I honestly don't see myself buying any SLG's in multiples just to match each bag. Right now I'm carrying a Kenneth Cole bag for work this week and I like seeing the mixture of SLG's in it.

I understand where you're coming from. I love the " clean" look of matching slg's. Yes, I'm a tad OCD. DE is my absolute favorite canvas and I do believe it coordinates with non- LV bags such as black, natural/ camel/tan, red... I have the full size Cuireuse wallet in Havane which matches mono and DE, and the Small Cosmetic Pouch, Agenda PM, And Cles in DE. These are my everyday items. I also have a Zippy Coin Purse in Amarante Vernis for my small bags, such as Alma BB. To coordinate with the ZCP in my small bags I have a mono mini pochette for cosmetics and a mono cles. For a wallet, there are options such as Epi and Empreinte and Vernis for some color and/ or variety. I do like my other pieces to " match", but that's just me. As for Sarah Wallet, it's a beautiful style! Buy the wallet you absolutely love because it will last for a very long time! I had LV French Purse that was 14 years old and still looked like new when I sold it a few months ago. A LV wallet is worth the price! Lastly, your slg's should be personal and bring you joy. Have fun selecting them.

Thank you very much for your reply! It's such a bummer with the Speedy B 25! I've just got mine last month, I'm worried now...

I've just checked my Neverfull MM DE which I got a couple of months ago (may) and have been carrying pretty much every single day for work. On the Neverfull I've indeed noticed a little bit of black on the corners - nothing bad and nothing that would bother me, because it's located in a way that if I didn't know where and what to look for, I'd never have noticed it.

However, the SLGs I'm planning to use a lot more than bags - because I can rotate my bags and use different ones, but I intend to use my SLGs in every single one of them and every single day... So they just have to wear nicely and take the everyday beating. The only thing that would possibly bother me about the wear and tear of mono is vachetta pieces (i.e. on mini pochette) - can you get colour transfer on vachetta from damier ebene red lining? I've heard that you can get the tranfer on damier azur SLGs and Vernis pieces, but I wonder if vachetta is also prone to it...

I've seen the Clemence in Fuchsia in the store, Fuchsia is a really beautiful colour and I love it, I'm just not sure if I will still like it say 10 years from now... But on the other hand, I could always just get a new wallet then. And I'm also not sure about fuchsia + red interior of DE bags... Do you think it "goes" or looks out of place? Or do you just think I'm insane? :p

I like mono for slg more than any other canvas, but I prefer damier ebene for canvas bags. I think it works. To me, mono is a neutral. I mix it in with my vernis and empriente.

I personally never had a problem when I had my ebene speedy 30 and azure/vachetta, but now that I know there is possible transfer I wouldn't directly put my items into an ebene bag without a pouch or an organizer.

I think the pop of fuchsia would be fun. I think there is more leeway when it's an slg.

Thanks for your reply! I wish I could afford to get SLGs to match every single bag, but instead I just want to get a set of SLGs that are universal enough to go with everything. :smile1:

Thank you so much for your excellent reply! Finally someone who understands! LOL! :D

First of all, congrats on your SLGs collection, it sounds just amazing! I'm honestly impressed with how well it is thought through!

For some weird reason, I think monogram coordinates with those neutral bags as well as DE - hence my dilemma. And as much as I prefer DE for handbags, I'm more and more leaning towards Mono for SLGs... I'm only worried that I'm not objective, because I might be "getting sick" of everything in DE, as I don't have any pieces in other prints yet. With my OCD I'd ideally get a set of SLGs in mono for all my non-LV bags and possible future monogram/vernis/empreinte bags and then the second set of DE SLGs for my DE bags (and then maybe third set of SLGs for DA bags, if I'll ever be brave enough to get some...). That reminds me of NastasiaM53 (I'm a big fan of her youtube channel) - in her early videos she got like every bag in all 3 prints and then every SLG in all 3 prints to go with every bag she had! I've thought it was adorable, but I'd never be able to afford all that. I mean I'd rather get a bag in all 3 prints, but I'm not THAT into SLGs to get so many of them, if that makes any sense...

I was actually thinking for a while about a leather wallet that would go with everything, but I really wanted an LV one that would be indestructible (well, nothing is) and I kind of think that canvas takes the beating better than leather.

Honestly, Sarah was the first wallet I ever liked from LV and I saw it many, many years ago, when I was still at school and I remember how I've thought that "it's SUCH a beautiful wallet, but who would be crazy enough to spend that much money on it?"... But even now, I still think the price is really steep for it (it's like I don't really need to add all that much to get a handbag for that price). And with my lifestyle now, I know I don't need all those card slots and I think I might regret it with smaller bags as it might take up a lot of space.

The Clemence IMO is still very pretty and just really great for the price and has a potential of lasting long. However I'm still not 100% sure on that Fuchsia lining... If it was plain brown, I would get that in a heartbeat!

I honestly don't know what to do yet, I guess I have to sleep on it. :p

I actually have never had any type of color transfer on vachetta from DE bags. I haven't even had a problem with my bleu marine (navy) mon mono neverfull lining. I have a DA pochette I even use in my bags occasionally and haven't had a problem.

I am not really a fan of pink, but I do really like the fuchsia on the clemence. I think it won't look dated, but if it does in 5-10 years I can definitely say I got a lot of use out of it and buy a new one :) I'm also not very big on matching things that are inside to the bag, so it's really hard for me to say. I personally think it is fine and in the same color family. I actually had a mimosa Clemence initially that matched my mimosa neverfull that I returned it because of an awful chemical smell and went with with fuchsia for variety. If clemence ever comes out in a green I will definitely be buying another, that's how perfect this wallet is to me lol!

Thank you for your reply! I think I might be similar - mono for SLGs and DE for bags! But I'm really worried about colour transfer now... I wouldn't really want to get SLGs and keep them in pouches inside my bags!

Thank you for your reply! Well, I guess that between black edges and possible colour transfer on vachetta, the second option is more "safe". I can always replace the tiny vachetta pieces that are on SLGs (and I guess since it's so little leather, it won't cost a fortune if it ever bothered me too much). With black canvas there is nothing you can do, you're stuck... And ideally, I want to get SLGs and carry them everyday in my bags for like 15 years! :D

To be honest, Clemence in DE is the only DE wallet I actually like. All the other ones seem too "masculine" to me and DE Emilie and Josephine look like teenagers wallets (no idea why I feel that way, I just do). But I loved the red leather pull in DE, I've thought it gave it a feminine touch. With monogram, I just feel like it's a bit too much... And it's still a very beautiful wallet, I just wish it wouldn't have a colorful lining, I'd rather get something more neutral.

I actually started out with DE in the Cles but now I have started gravitating towards Monogram instead.
So far I have the Cles in DE and Pocket organizer in Cobalt

Monogram:
Small Ring Agenda
Passport Cover
Adele Wallet

Thank you for your reply! I love DE, because it's just more subtle, but monogram is such a classic print and with SLGs I feel like it's not so "in your face". Honestly, if I wasn't considering any bags at all, just the SLGs on their own, then I prefer monogram, as I think it's prettier on it's own. :smile1:
