Who said it was an excuse? I don't understand how mitigating risk and exercising common sense means that you're excusing the criminal. Where are you getting this from?

I'm beginning to think it's related to when, where and how you were brought up. We always locked everything. Always careful about what was said on the phone unless you knew who you were talking to. Never left things where people could see them. To this day, I will not put my name, picture, address, phone number, email address or any other personal information anywhere on the web (with the exception of known secure connections).

Others don't seem to hesitate a moment to post their whole lives all over the open web daily.

I don't need to read about a concept that encourages people to avoid taking any type of responsibility for their actions. When bad things happen to me, i can own up to a part i may have played in that but clearly not everyone can do that.

If you're just going to ignore anything I'm saying what is the point of responding to me? *smdh*

In EVERY SINGLE POST I've made on this subject both in the JL thread and here, I've said the women were naive and yes they should have been more careful. What is it about that you can't understand?

None of that negates the criminal act of what this guy did.

In short, we're probably saying the same thing - you just don't want to listen.

That's hilarious because i said the exact same thing that is in the bolded and you seem to be ignoring everything i'm saying. Telling someone to exercise common sense does NOT negate the crime in any way, shape or form. You know it IS possible to discuss how a crime is preventable while punishing the perpertrator at the same time. It's not one or the other.

Peace Labelwhore. I'm not mad with you. This is just an all round bad situation for these girls and I feel for them. And to be honest, I've seen some really nasty stuff (not here) elsewhere that got my goat.

:peace:

If anything good comes from it, it's that a discussion on this with the proliferation of phones and social media is no doubt a good thing. And you know, passionate discussion is good for the blood ;)

Well, if the hat fits. And that attitude is the same one that says rape victims had some part in the crime perpetuated against them because of the clothing they were wearing. This is just a different kind of assault.

Since this is probably addressed at me, I'll respond. If you actually read my posts, I'm not saying these woman shouldn't have been more careful. But being naive about your personal pictures is not a crime. Nor is taking an nude selfie for a loved one or sexual partner.

What is a crime is what this hacker did with them. And I think that's where the focus should be - not on why they didn't store them at this, that or the other place.

You're tired of this argument? Yeah, me too.

I'm certainly tired of everyone tying every type of assault to rape.

I leave my designer sunglasses unattended, they are stolen, if someone says, "You shouldn't have left those while you walked away..." they are instantly victim blaming and thus support rape because they think it was a bad move for me to leave something in plain view where people could steal it? Come on.

The hacker is a jackass. No one is arguing that.

Celebs get hacked ALL the time, in fact if you're a big celeb, it's almost guaranteed that someone will hack you at one point. They should really know better than to have naked pics of themselves, especially with their face included. Even regular people know that if you're gonna take a nude, don't include the face. The hacker is obviously the one in the wrong but with everything else in life, you need to take precautions. It's not about "placing blame." There will always be bad, sick people out there waiting to pounce, you need to do your best to protect yourself and be smart about things, especially when you're in the public eye. You may not be able to keep everything sealed on your devices from a hackers point but you can at least make sure there are no compromising pictures. There are a lot of things in life that are out of your control but this isn't one of them. It's not gonna kill you or ruin your life to NOT take nudes.

This ^^^ completely. I just can't seem to feel sorry for anyone who gets hacked when it's common sense to not take nude photos on your phone. Why are people so damn obsessed with taking nude photos nowadays?

Some of the pics are far beyond regular nude pics, some of them are basically porn, very graphic and very embarrassing.

98% of the photos aren't that bad, the remaining 2% are embarrassing but aren't going to cause permanent damage at least not in this day and age.

Also not all the photos are really who they say they are, two of the screenshots people claim to be JLaw are not her and few others are fake. I saw one of Lucy Lui that I could have sworn was real but it turned out not to be her.

Edit:
The person I feel most sorry for is Jessica Findlay.

Celebrity Nude Photo Leak The FBI Is on the Case!

The celebrity nude photo leak scandal has reached a boiling point ... and now the FBI is getting involved.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for the FBI said, "The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter. Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time."

Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton -- the two most prominent names in the leak -- have both expressed interest in pursuing legal action in the matter.

An Apple spokesperson told Recode.net they are "active investigating" whether or not their iCloud system was hacked as part of this leak.

Kirsten Dunst became the latest celeb featured in the leak to comment via Twitter, placing the blame squarely on Apple's shoulders (while also acknowledging the photos are real). She simply wrote, "Thank you iCloud."

I have no idea who this 'Jennifer Lawrence' person is, what she does or why she's in the public eye (apparently some slasher flick?), but she's really starting to annoy me. OK, so some skin-pics leaked out. Annoying? Yes. Invasion of privacy? Yes. Fodder for a possible civil suit someday? Yes.

Crime Of The Freaking Century? Not even close.

Sugah Cheeks, the FBI has real crimes to deal with. You know, the kind where people get killed for real? The kind where people lose their life savings? They don't need you wasting their time over this. You want to fuss at somebody? Fuss at Apple for their inadequate security.

But get off the media pages with your whining. Or, maybe you wanted the attention?
