I wanted to make sure I understand this right. The limit amount is $800 through shipment, so there shouldn't be any charge for custom/duty/import fees right? If I purchase any handbag less than $800 and seller declare under $800 and seller used DHL shipping method, DHL shouldn't charge any custom/duty/import fees right? Thanks.

I would suggest you call DHL to verify/confirm that you will you will not be obligated to pay fees so that
you are clear as to what to expect or not to expect..
The $800 limit is correct...

Are you saying the carriers will charge their fees, regardless we get charge custom fees or not? Thanks.
As I understand it, yes, they charge a fee for their service over and above what may or may not be due for customs fees. It's the reason a lot of sellers/shippers only use USPS, even for international shipping. Personally, I find USPS to be the best bargain for both domestic and international.

Japan Post (EMS) is closed due to pandemic, so DHL is the only carrier choice right now. Thanks so much for answering my questions!

i will let you know what happens when they arrive- one was $460, another was $385 and the third was $545. i plead temporary insanity....
If they’re shipped separately you shouldn’t have to pay anything. You’re allowed to import up to $800 without paying tax or duty.

Hi! Sorry if this is a repeated question.. but i need some help in understanding this. I have bought from sellers from japan in the past and never got charged import/custom fees but this is before ebay implemented tax and this was like 2 years ago. So now, if i bought a bag that is lets say $1600... and ebay taxed me on the product, would I still be paying custom/import fees? Is the custom/import fee the same as if I got charged foreign fees on the credit card or is it different fees? Also, is there a difference or is it the same in terms of getting custom/import fee if I bought a bag same value from Singapore to the US via website .. not ebay. TIA

Yup, we get slam with 3-4 types of taxes/fees on international purchases! If you purchase on ebay, they will charge sale tax whether seller is in or outside of the states. Custom may charge custom fees for your items value over $800 (hit and miss). If you use other carriers beside USPS/Post, most likely you will get charge. I just find out that DHL, Fedex, and UPS will charge you brokerage fees on your packages whether your items are value under $800 or not. Foreign fees are charge from your credit card co. When I used my American Express to paid, I always get charge foreign fee for any purchases that was made using other countries' currency.
