I know this is likely the unpopular opinion on this thread, and maybe I’m a little salty & biased because I didn’t get one...but while I get the appeal of the heart bag, I also thinks it looks a little like something my kid would wear. $2100 for a novelty item, sure - but I personally just can’t justify spending close to $5k on something that’s not a classic, sophisticated piece. Just my opinion, I want this bag, but can’t rationalize spending much more than what it went for @ retail price

agreed. for me it would be a collector's piece for sure, and I'm at that stage in my collection where i can fathom spending $2500 for that. definitely not $5k though. i think the people buying these for insane resale prices must just have ridiculously high discretionary income.... not judging, but simply making an observation.
OR possibly it's personal shoppers buying for clients who want the item "no matter the cost", where their time is worth more than the money they spend to buy it at the exorbitant resale prices

agreed!
i wouldn’t even buy at that crazy price even for a limited edition speedy which is the LV iconic bag. For a few hundred $ more maybe, but certainly not $2-$3k over retail.

I think LV may have underestimated the appeal of this heart bag- maybe they thought being a figural novelty bag, it would have a very limited audience. From what I can tell, more bags went to Asia vs North America and maybe Europe. It seems the really cute stuff goes to Japan and other Asian cities (xmas animation made just for that market). I could be wrong but I am stumped why a bag that was so prominent in the Cruise 2021 collection campaign should be so scarce.

Yes!! It seems obvious to me that this is a style that would appeal to a large number of buyers, probably even people who aren't super into bags or luxury more generally and don't really splash out for LV bags on a regular basis, just because it's so different and very cute. I think even if they had produced it in much larger numbers, it would still be selling out. I am really, really hoping they recognize this and bring it back into production at some point even if it would just be another limited run, although I'm pretty sure it's a pipe dream. If people are willing to pay 2x or almost 3x the original price to buy it from resellers because they want it so badly, think of how many more people would be willing to buy it from LV at the original price or even higher if they could just get their hands on it. Why let resellers be the one to make a killing off this high demand?

resellers making a killing off this high demand has two consequences though - yes, the resellers do profit quite handsomely, but also the perceived value of LV as a company goes up too

isn't this why hermes seen in such a superior light? their bags are hard to obtain, and since they limit supply and the demand is high, resellers make a killing BUT hermes also increases its brand exclusivity... which as i mentioned, may be good for LV, which seems to be trying to do something similar (obviously not to the same level as hermes though)

one might argue that the less-tangible gain from this angle outweighs the monetary loss they're taking from making such limited numbers of the bag, but who knows - i'm no expert, just a luxury enthusiast

Hello, I heard from CS that the bag model was so hard to make, so that's why they do not do more. ? My order was also cancelled. :/ And yes, most of the bags went to Asia.
interesting, can definitely see how it would be hard to make a relatively non-pliable material like canvas into the heart shape.... hope we don't see cracking issues in the future :( maybe they'll do a leather version instead in the future

That is a very good point. I guess that would help explain why this and a lot of the other special collections are so limited and why people seem to have such a hard time getting the high-demand SLGs (Kirigami, MPA, key pouch, etc.) that should be relatively cheap to produce. Not to get too far off topic, but I wonder why they're not applying this strategy more evenly across items--it might be a victory to get your hands on a key pouch, but if you know you can walk into any LV and leave with a Neverfull, I feel like that kind of cancels it out a little.

In any case I'm bummed they couldn't have been just a teensy bit less exclusive with the heart bag.

this is likely going to sound odd/possibly even offensive to some who won't understand where its coming from, but a genuine opinion and observation. I'm not surprised at all if a lot of the heart bag was sent to Asia as opposed to North America for the simple reason that a bag of this nature/shape/novelty appeal ..sells better on the asian market. I've been to Japan numerous times and am asian myself and for those of you who have been to Japan may be able to concur that asian fashion (most specifically in Japan) is right up this alley. They love cutesy looking things, pops of wild color, things that stand out. Hence brands like Tokidoki (if you are unfamiliar with that brand its easily searchable all over google images). Theres also the famous Harajuku district that thrives on unique/colorful/trendy fashion and art. I read another TPFer say that the bag reminded them of something a little kid might wear or something just for novelty purposes. to be honest I feel LV thought customers in North America would feel exactly that way, but knew it would be a hit in Asia. I purchased a nano speedy in Japan earlier this year and the location I got it from had an array of nano bags . mini alma, nano noe, and I also know the discontinued nano turenne is also easier to find for resale in the asian market compared to here in the US. but that just falls back into my observation that the company just believes certain styles will appeal more to different parts and consumer audiences around the world.
