I am completely agreeing with the sentiment here... I, too, just bought my last
MG bag. I purchased the backpack in pebbled leather. I wanted the slouch of pebbled leather for this bag, and I understood that there would be an "airing out" period because the pebbled leather is so, so stinky when you get it... seriously, overwhelmingly stinky... but I was prepared. I had set up my guest room with an ionizer and a fan. After three days, there was still a strong leather smell, but it was not knock-you-out overwhelming an longer.
So I opened the top flap to pull out the stuffing and put my things in, and I noticed that the glaze was cracked through all around the top of the bag. This is a bag that has NEVER been used. It has been sitting untouched in my guest room for three days. Argh!
So I took pictures and sent them to MG. This was the response:
"Thank you for reaching out to us and for providing photos for us! This is normal wear for our Tumble leather edging and we do not view this as a damage or a defect. Our edges are hand painted and will crack with use, as the bag is constantly being adjusted open and shut. Because this leather is unstructured, the edges tend to wear faster than our other leather types, although each bag is prone to wear here. Please note, our handbags are under a one year warranty if there are any issues in the future with the paint chipping, but we haven't seen this is happen as of yet.
Any leather repair shop can repaint over these edges, if you were ever interested in refreshing the paint. If this is area is every repainted, the edges will still eventually crack with use.
We hope this information helps and please let us know if you have any further questions."
I responded that the bag had never been worn. There is not "wear" on this bag. It is frankly shocking to me that a company would send a bag in need of repair to a customer and assume that it is the customers responsibility to repair the bag. What the heck? I said that I was astounded that they accept this level of shoddy quality as "normal". And I didn't even mention that the glaze, in general, looks like it was applied by a pack of drunk monkeys. It is all wobbly and spills over onto the leather surface of the bag in multiple places... I noticed that right away before the airing out, but I just assumed that the application was heavy-handed... but taken together with the cracking and general apathy from customer service... Honestly, there is better quality and attention to detail just about everywhere... I can't believe that this brand is thriving. Who is buying this junk?
