Hi there, would you mind giving me your experience with using the 55 as carry on? International travel specifically. traveling within Europe and Asia on flights - does it always fit or have you been forced to check it? Thank you so muchI have a 55 horizon for few years and I love the sleek look. After using it travel all over the world, it has various dings and scratches on the surface to prove it’s mileage. The first one hurts a little but later ones are whatever... I never gotten the cover for it until after several dings/ scratches. Lol. A bit too late. But I figure I can use the cover with other horizons that I’ll buy in the future...that’s how much I love the design. I also have a rimowa of the same size for when I go to countries that are a bit more... how shall I put it... challenging. It works perfectly as well. But I don’t feel as fabulous when pulling a rimowa.![]()
I have never had to check my 55 in when traveling in Europe or Asia. I don’t know if it’s because I only fly in business class? It should fit in an overhead compartment whether you are in business or economy unless you are flying in a small plane. Hope this helps!Hi there, would you mind giving me your experience with using the 55 as carry on? Thank you so much for the quick reply. This is so helpful thank you ! Air France and Al Italia have a weird sizing requirement. It doesn’t matter what class of service you’re in but they allow you to have more weight when you’re in business or first. The size is slightly different than the size of the 55 so I’ll take a chance - much appreciated.I have never had to check my 55 in when traveling in Europe or Asia. While I have not traveled extensively in France with my horizon 55 via Air France, I don't recall ever had to check it in. ITA airways is a new airline so I have no idea what their requirements are. But given overhead bins are all made by just few companies, I can't imagine they won't fit. I find it extremely rare for any airlines to question my carry on unless I'm travel in a small plane in Africa to safari lodges. I try not to take horizon with me to Africa as I think that's just asking for trouble unless I'm flying private.Thank you so much for the quick reply. This is so helpful thank you ! Horizon 55 is the max carry on luggage size you can have for international flights for most airlines. It's smaller than RIMOWA's cabin series (which is slightly exceeded the max allowed size for most airlines as a carry on) but I haven't seen anyone forced to check their RIMOWA, so Horizon will be fine. And it's way lighter than RIMOWA essential so you can use your 7kg per carry on to the max.Hi there, would you mind giving me your experience with using the 55 as carry on? Thank you for all the info. Very helpfulHorizon 55 is the max carry on luggage size you can have for international flights for most airlines. I've both Horizon 50 and 55 for years, and I used them a lot. I don't use any cover at all and the metal parts do scratch easily. I fly only business so protect them won't be a problem as for international flights you don't share the overhead compartment with others. But I won't recommend Horizon if you a) flying economy or b) use for domestic/inter-EU flights which business class is just a glorified economy, other passengers will destroy them.
Also I don't recommend Horizon 70 as it's a check-in only luggage unless you have a private jet. Use RIMOWA Original would be a better choice if you don't want to buy a new one after every flight.
Note that LV has quietly replace the materials/components of the Horizon to cheaper alternatives year by year. The internal zip housing and bolts were initially metal years ago and now they are black plastic, the interior fabric were replaced with cheaper ones and the zippers inside are now metal instead of leather. They also no longer come with dust covers, while the price has increased 20% since 5 years ago.
