contemplating between the VCA 20 motifs hammered yellow gold and the 10 motifs guilloche yellow gold

I think the hammered might be the way to go. The Guilloché is pretty showy. As to which length, this is totally personal and depends on your size and body shape. For myself, the 10 motif is simply not flattering. The 20 suits me much better. Although I am on the shorter size of average, I am not petite. I had the chance to try on a 20 in the boutique and it was the perfect length for me.
I am petite with narrow shoulders but I like the 20 motifs. Do u think it would look good? I think if I were to go with the 20 hammered, I would mainly wear it doubled or lariat style which I like (I like motif heavy style). Do you think I will be able to play with the length (if I wanted to wear it long) by just hooking the clasp after the second motif at the back?

If I were to get the 10 motifs then I would ask the boutique to extend it for me to the max they can as I dont like the roundness of the 10 motif although I love how the motifs reflect light, brighten the face and kind of provide a mirror under the face.

Yes- ITA with @lill_canele and @880 that the watch is tiny. My friend was wearing hers the other day and another friend asked to try it on, and as we are all getting older I noticed the same thing- it is so hard to read, and frankly, I don’t find it to be anything more than a jewelry piece, which for its price, you can get a much better watch or jewelry. It’s too delicate for daily wear, because it’s so shiny and smooth, that all scratches will show on it, unlike other watches where there are links so not smooth like a bangle.

As for the necklace- this depends. The 10-motif will be easier to wear, I am not a fan of the 20 from VCA, and especially if you’re petite- it is not favorite (I’m short). I’ve seen the guilloche 10 on people IRL, and it’s super shiny and bright, very beautiful. The hammered in 10 is a perfect piece for everyday that’s a little-more subtle. It’s a personal choice if you want a brighter-shinier look or a more-matte muted look. I think both are perfect and you can’t go wrong with either, but in a 10 motif. In terms of scratches to the guilloche, don’t believe the naysayers, unless you plan on stacking it with a necklace with rough stones, but probably not lol. Best of luck, fun choices!
Have you tried the 20 motifs? Do u mean that it tends to overwhelm a petite frame?

Hi- yes, I have tried the hammered-YG and the WG MOP in 20 motifs, both years ago. I’m pretty short and petite and I didn’t find it flattering at all. It is too long on me, and doubled up I didn’t like the way it laid on top of the other. I personally didn’t like my 10 with a 5 either, but it was a better look than the 20. Do you have 3 5-motifs? See if you can wear them together just to see the length of a 15, and you can wear it as a lariat too maybe? You’d be better off buying 1 10 motif and then adding another 10 if the 10+5 don’t work for you.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you that the craftsmanship on the hammered gold is so unique. I have the 5 motifs hammered and love that it is carefree.

The idea of 10 motifs with 5 is great though I do worry that one of the clasps may just open up. However, the 10 motifs hammered gold cannot be ordered and is not available (as told by my SA).

I do worry that the 20 motifs would be too long to wear as I am short, but do you think that the problem would be solved if the necklace is doubled up? Also which one do you think will hold its value better? Thanks 😊
I have had no issues with any of the clasps opening up when worn attached. Usually have my hair down so the connecting clasps are not visible as I pushed them towards the back. See if your SA can notify you once the 10 can be ordered again, or, check the website from time to time.

As for the 20, I have tried it but it’s way too long for me.

To me, the value is in the pieces that you wear often. That’s my 10, 5 and matching earrings. ☺️

I do not have 3 5-motifs but I have used a measuring tape to see where would a 20 motif lie and it looks like it would be two inches above my belly button.

Also, try sitting down and you’ll see it’ll hang a little lower. Just go to Target (or maybe you already have a long necklace) get a long necklace the length of a 20 motif. Wear it for a couple days. I tried that, and after a few hours, I found it so impractical. Be patient and wait for the hammered 10 or get the guilloche. Good luck, you can’t go wrong with either!

I never thought of how it would look while sitting down. Thats an eye opener. You are so right. It would hang really low and look so weird. I think I will go with the 10 motifs. Thanks 😊

I just watched on Tiktok a girl complaining that her 5 motif guilloche bracelet has two of its motifs tarnishing. She mentioned that her SA was not helpful and that she was very disappointed.
Has anyone experienced tarnishing with their yellow gold guilloche pieces?

18k shouldn't tarnish easily unless she allowed it to come in contact with certain chemicals. My jeweler friend says not to wear jewelry in the shower or pool because of the chlorine and other minerals in the water. Since 18k is not 100% gold, over time the chemicals found in water, and also lotions, etc. can interact with the non-gold metals in the jewelry and cause the tarnishing. They can be cleaned though. The SA should have told her all this.

I have never seen this happening with Cartier bracelets and I never take them off. One of the perks of going with guilloche or hammered is that they are carefree, durable and can be worn non-stop compared to stones. This is somewhat disappointing.
The tiktoker mentioned that she had sent it to be repaired and VCA gave her two options, to get it polished or to change the two motifs in her guilloche. She had it only for a few months. Maybe a defective batch?

Could have been defective. I have no idea. I don't know what the nature of the defect would be though to cause tarnish on only 2 motifs.

Maybe she uses some kind of product with sulphur in it. Some skin care uses it and it can affect the non-gold metals that gold is mixed with. Maybe she had something on her hands and touched 2 of the motifs and left a residue that caused a chemical reaction that resulted in tarnish? I could see how the guilloche texture might be more likely to collect skin care products like lotion, soap residue, etc. in those grooves, leaving more time to cause tarnish.

18kt is only 75% gold. The other 25% is what tarnishes. Maybe VCA produces different batches of gold using different alloys, some of which have higher concentrations of metals that tarnish (like copper). This seems more likely than the first possibilty, just because I would think that if it was her skin care that was causing the problem, why are only 2 out of 5 motifs affected? If it's a case of 2 of them having a different alloy mix, that would make more sense. I assume lots of the motifs are made and then assembled into various bracelets, necklaces, and so forth. It would make sense that the alloys might change based on availability, cost, etc. and that motifs with different alloy mixes could end up in one piece.

This is all just speculation of course, but these are the only things I can think of that would explain why some of the motifs would tarnish and not others.

I'm interested to hear if anyone has had this issue. The guilloche patterned pieces are my favorite VCA pieces and the only ones I'm really interested in. They are high on my wish list.

I saw this influencers posts as well. I've had the 5 motif yg bracelet for about a year now with no issues. Tt's not a daily piece for me, the influencer mentioned she wore hers daily. I used to wear the vca sweet rose gold necklace daily with no tarnishing despite getting perfume / makeup / sunscreen on it. I've been wearing a cartier love daily for 10ish years and never had any tarnishing - both brands use 18K gold. A big draw of VCA for me is the craftsmanship, so I'm hoping her issue was a fluke. Hard to say, but it sounds like ultimately she got a refund. All brands make mistakes, if you buy anything I'd inspect the piece closely before taking it home.

Hi everyone! I've decided to go with the 10-motif hammered yellow gold necklace. I also love the look of the 20 motifs, so I'm planning to get a second 10-motif to give myself the option to wear them either separately as two 10s or together as a 20. I really value that versatility, which is why I'm opting for two 10s instead of a single 20-motif necklace.

Now, I'm a bit torn on the combination:
  • Option 1: Two 10-motif hammered yellow gold necklaces
  • Option 2: One 10-motif hammered yellow gold + one 10-motif guilloché yellow gold
Would mixing the hammered and guilloché look mismatched or a bit too busy? Would it look tacky?
The benefit of the mixed option is that I’d get two distinct looks when worn separately, which adds to the versatility. That said, I’m leaning toward going with two hammered pieces for a more cohesive look when worn together. But I am not sure….

Would love to hear your thoughts—would the mix be elegant or too much? Has anyone combined the two?
