contemplating between the VCA 20 motifs hammered yellow gold and the 10 motifs guilloche yellow gold

At first I debated between the hammered and guilloche. They are both very beautiful and great value since it’s all gold. Eventually, I went with the hammered as I prefer my jewelry as pristine as possible and with its unique craftsmanship, scratches aren’t as obvious or visible. Matter of fact, till now all of my hammered pieces look brand new still. So my vote is for the hammered. However, although I love the long necklace look, I think I’m too short to have the 20. Instead, I love the length I create with my 10 and 5 together, a perfect length for me when I wear high neckline tops, and of course the 10 for when I have enough space for it to show.
Good Luck and have fun deciding! You can never go wrong with either one. 😍

I'm glad you decided against the watch for all the reasons already stated above. I won't repeat them, so I'll just add that in my opinion, it is difficult for women's watches to stay on-trend for very long because sizes and subtle shape changes occur that make them look very dated in just a few years. Unlike men's watches which vary less overall (as compared to women's watches), they show their age quickly.

Regarding the necklace, I think the guilloche is so much prettier than the hammered. Personal preference of course, but to me the hammered just look sloppier and less "crafted." Guilloche is a beautiful technique and each motif simply sparkles with the light that bounces out of each beautiful line. It's the only thing VCA makes that truly tempts me tbh, because it really is so beautiful.

However, another consideration is the length of each. Which would be better for you? For me, I have so many necklaces that are longer like the 20 motif necklace but I almost never wear them. I just don't like the way they flop around over my clothes. The length of the 10 motif is perfect imo because it is high enough to show over most shirt/dress necklines. It frames the face. Of course, I do have a friend that hates that length because she has a double chin and she doesn't like anything that she feels highlights it.

I have no idea which of these considerations (if any) might be relevant for you, but you really can't go wrong with either choice. Both are beautiful necklaces.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.

I love both necklaces.

The 20 motif hammered gold looks effortless and carefree that I dont have to baby a lot. Plus the option of wearing it double or lariat style is also a plus. The problem is that I am very petite and am afraid that it will look overwhelming especially if I wear it long just the way it is.

You are so right about the 10 motifs guilloche framing the face. I love the shine and how it provides some light under the face. It is beautiful. But I am afraid that the shine will be lost after sometime. I do not have long necklaces so I was thinking that if I were to get the 10 motifs, I would have it extended a little as I dont like the round shape.

I tried modelling with my bracelets to see which one I liked as a necklace, but still cant decide. Also, which would look good as I grow older?
Another consideration is the value. Which of the two hold their value better?

Thank you for your reply. I agree with you that the craftsmanship on the hammered gold is so unique. I have the 5 motifs hammered and love that it is carefree.

The idea of 10 motifs with 5 is great though I do worry that one of the clasps may just open up. However, the 10 motifs hammered gold cannot be ordered and is not available (as told by my SA).

I do worry that the 20 motifs would be too long to wear as I am short, but do you think that the problem would be solved if the necklace is doubled up? Also which one do you think will hold its value better? Thanks 😊

@Oceansparkle Have you considered the hammered 10-motif? It’s no secret how much I love the effortless beauty of hammered pieces and their low maintenance. Having said that I also like Guilloche but found both WG and YG Guilloche pieces to be too harsh on my skin tone. My sweet spot was RG guilloche that looks more toned down on me.

I hope you get to try both the pieces you are considering. Most times I find the pieces that look good in pics may not spark the same level of joy as you initially thought and vise versa.

I have considered the 10 motifs hammered gold but it is not available and not orderable as told by my SA.

I wish I could try them but I don’t have a VCA in my city. However, I did try both my bracelets as necklaces and still couldn’t decide. They both had different looks.
With the hammered piece I feel double wrapped would look good since it is subtle. With the guilloche the 10 motifs is just enough with that shine.

That’s a bummer at not being able to try but I am glad you have both choices as bracelets. Seems like either one would be a great choice. You could do 10 + 5 with both, the hammered and Guilloche.

Which out of the two bracelets do you end up wearing the most? That might give you a clue on which to get.

I wear the hammered daily. I haven’t worn the guilloche much to avoid scratching it as I was thinking that if I were to get a guilloche necklace I might attach it to it and wear it as a necklace.

I think it’s too small. Watches are already trending larger. And the last time they were this small was in the 1980s.

All seem like solid reasons to get the 20 motif. However, I don’t know if there is a wait list for this piece

If you are not sure that you even need/want a gold watch, don’t do it. From your posts, it seems like you are talking yourself into the watch bc it’s logical and you have FOMO

However, I would not buy anything without trying it on in person. I agree with @lill_canele that there is always a moment of epiphany. Without that, I don’t think anyone should buy anything.
Yes- ITA with @lill_canele and @880 that the watch is tiny. My friend was wearing hers the other day and another friend asked to try it on, and as we are all getting older I noticed the same thing- it is so hard to read, and frankly, I don’t find it to be anything more than a jewelry piece, which for its price, you can get a much better watch or jewelry. It’s too delicate for daily wear, because it’s so shiny and smooth, that all scratches will show on it, unlike other watches where there are links so not smooth like a bangle.

As for the necklace- this depends. The 10-motif will be easier to wear, I am not a fan of the 20 from VCA, and especially if you’re petite- it is not favorite (I’m short). I’ve seen the guilloche 10 on people IRL, and it’s super shiny and bright, very beautiful. The hammered in 10 is a perfect piece for everyday that’s a little-more subtle. It’s a personal choice if you want a brighter-shinier look or a more-matte muted look. I think both are perfect and you can’t go wrong with either, but in a 10 motif. In terms of scratches to the guilloche, don’t believe the naysayers, unless you plan on stacking it with a necklace with rough stones, but probably not lol. Best of luck, fun choices!

I'm not sure how the necklace would get scratched, unless, as said above, you plan to wear it with other pieces.

I don't know if you could do this, but I feel like someone once suggested connecting a 10 motif necklace with a 5 motif bracelet to make a longer necklace. I don't know whether that would be realistic as I don't know what the clasps look like, but I swear someone on here suggested it once. Since you have the bracelet, maybe that would be possible?

You mentioned how the pieces will look as you get older. I don't a difference in wearability between either with regards to age. Both styles are equally appropriate for any age imo.

I think the hammered might be the way to go. The Guilloché is pretty showy. As to which length, this is totally personal and depends on your size and body shape. For myself, the 10 motif is simply not flattering. The 20 suits me much better. Although I am on the shorter size of average, I am not petite. I had the chance to try on a 20 in the boutique and it was the perfect length for me.

I think I could attach the 10 with my 5 motif bracelet though I am not sure if the clasps would be too visible or how secure that it is.
