Coated Canvas

My only coated canvas bags are from LV. They're durable and lightweight. They can go under the sun, the rain and the snow. is my favourite because I don't have to worry about stains on my handles.

I have a friend who owns a Neverfull and is the exact same opposite. One time, another friend spilled some water on it and the owner FREAKED OUT. She started yelling at the poor girl about compensation if something goes wrong with the bag and refused to talk to her for some time. I considered telling them what the bag was made of but it would have made things worse for sure :p

I only have one bag with coated canvas and it's a Rioni. It's very durable and I was impressed by how when I got bad dye transfer from wearing it with a new red dress (my skin was red too!) and it just pretty much wiped off with a baby wipe and was good as new. It's also very durable and very lightweight. I still prefer leather, though, and would not spend too much on coated canvas. That's just me.

I would only pay $$$ for LV canvas only. It truly is the most indestructible material. I have a bag that is part canvas and part leather. And its light! I just had to put it in for repair for all the leather trim and handles, while the canvas is completely in tact and still looks new.

I dont think leather is "all that". I have other leather bags that age so poorly that it looks terrible after a few years.

LV coated canvas is basically all their monogram and damier patterns. I do own one and it looks like leather from afar but I am not really loving it as it is literally a piece of plastic for more than a thousand dollars and is nearly as delicate as leather.

If you are really rough like me, I do suggest the Gucci ones such as this http://www.gucci.com/uk/styles/201480FU49R1000#

It doesn't look like leather at all, but it is nearly unbreakable. I throw my burgundy tote in that material all over the place and there is not a single scratch on it.

I have had a Speedy for years and years and it is unbreakable!
My sister has had one for years too and it's still in perfect condition.
I can carry it in the rain, there is no problem of stains, no problem of coulour transfer either.

I have a number of Rionis. I use the black one the most, because it rains a lot here and it's got treated leather trim and handles. Most likely the canvas will last as well as an LV. The prices are about 1/8 of similar LV.

Actually, there's one Rioni i use more - the one I have an Ikea box inside to hinder it from flopping. I use it only inside the house, so the vachetta isn't a problem. It just keeps getting more beautiful as it ages.

However, I once saw a Rioni that was used to death on ebay. It had a HOLE in the canvas. Looks like a fold that had eventually made the canvas break and made a hole. Now I know why so many LV owners are afraid of folds.. That's probably the one thing that can kill a coated canvas bag..

.

It is not. LV canvas is cotton with an applied finish on it. It is super hard-wearing, at least historically it's been.

Sorry, that purse cannot be compared to LV.

There are designs that purposely have pleats and folds on LV canvas bags and there are no issues.

Ummm... Since both purses are coated canvas with vachetta leather trim and this is a thread called "coated canvas" I think it's ok to venture a comparison. You can say you find LV to be better quality, but it's rather uncalled for to deny that any comparison should ever be made. And Rionis are excellent quality, btw, despite their lack of LVs all over them. Any bag can get ruined if mistreated.

Pardon my ignorance but I am always confused about what coated canvas is!? I know a lot of designer brands, esp LV, uses coated canvas...but what is it really? canvas coated with something? with what? and are they really worth that amount of money? at the end of the day it's not leather

Here's a great little article: http://jakewilton.com/2010/11/17/coated-canvas-misconception-or-misinformed/

I think if you're asking if it's worth it, then you already know your answer.

Pardon my lack of English as a first language. I should have said crease. I just didn't remember that word when I wrote it.

I don't know which canvas is more hard wearing, Rioni or LV. Neither do you, unless the difference has been examined closely and or tested.

Your reasons for prefering LV are your own. My reasons for prefering Rioni are simple: I don't care about the label, only the quality, price and good looks. Rioni impresses me in that way. That's all I ask.

Hi, guys! Since youre talking about coated canvas, would you possibly know if it's possible to remove denim transfer on a cream colored mcm bag? say does anyone here have a damier azur bag that has caught a stain for comparison? i recently purchased apple care products, both the leather cleaner and the conditioner and im wondering if it's applicable to coated canvas as well?

Please share your thoughts/experiences. Thanks in advance!
