What do you guys think of the new line 'Coachtopia'? Seems they hire independent artists to make Coach styles in recycled / reused materials? I thought it might be like Coach's 'upcrafted', but these seem more deconstructed. Like from scraps or cut pieces, not just with drawings or flowers on them

Almost everything sold out pretty much immediately, but I'm guessing they'll do it again?

I love the idea & am in heaven with all the silver hardware of this drop. I do wish there were more styles but did place an order. Am hoping the size is doable for me. I'll post photos when my package arrives.
Oh, can't wait to see! That Ergo style is pretty up my alley as well, not sure if that's what you got. But I loved the fun colors. They felt fun and exuberate while still not feeling like random things were happening on the bags, the way many of the regular 'reloved' ones do.

I love these! The price tag makes so much more sense than the upcrafted and reloved bags. Especially if they rotate the artists and designers.

I sadly didn't check out fast enough to get my first choice bags though
I agree the price was much more reasonable. Sorry you didn't get your first choice. It was quite a successful launch, it seems, so they'll probably do it again.

I ordered these two. I would have ordered an Ergo but the two I loved were sold out when I randomly woke up @ 1:30 am.

I’m obsessed with the Coachtopia concept. It seems so freaking cool, and I’m really excited that they brought the mini ergo back because the resale price for those can get a lil insane on websites like ebay… I was able to snag a wavy dinky cherry bag ❤️ can’t wait to for them to drop more designs.

I think everyone should take the time to read this Vogue article about the new venture and the components of the resulting bags. When you get to the part about the embedded NFC chips in these bags, you might reevaluate how you feel about them. I sure feel differently about them, and I will not be purchasing any of them.

Part of the reason they are cheaper is because of how they are made and the leather components they are using. Reloved costs more because they are the full leather bags. Nothing against the new ones but the leather on regular Coach bags is nicer.

This is an interesting point. I was actually wondering the opposite, how they could afford to charge these lower prices on what seems to be a very labor-intensive task. Like sewing all those squares together in that wavy pattern seemed more cost intensive than to take a bag that had already been produced, and already sold for its original profit, then reloved in a way that looks like less work was involved. Usually labor is the big cost, I thought. But I just might not understand the amount of work that goes into a reloved item, or the cost of leather.

But too, the ones that are not bits of leather sewn together do seem to be mostly solid panels of leather. I thought they might have just eaten some cost here, or been happy with less profit, for a successful launch and to attract younger customers, who usually have less money. Coachtopia does seem to center them, as they are all “Gen Z artists”

May I ask why the chip bothers you? All purchases can be tracked anyway via the transaction (credit card, store, time and date of purchase). Why does it matter if the chip is scanned when the bag is returned, and then assigned to the recycled product? It will just give the item provenance and will detail how many times an item was able to be reworked.
Am I missing something more sinister here? :hrmm:

I love the idea of chips for authentification. There are so many well-made knockoffs, it would be great if there was a way to just take a bag to a local store and have it scanned to find out if I have a genuine version. The imitations are getting really good these days, but I'd like to avoid them if possible.

Before anyone worries or wonders: NFC chips DO NOT set off door alarms in stores. Store security tags are RFID, not NFC. You shouldn't have any issues with the new bags throwing you in the spotlight as you're entering and leaving stores.

I had to look it up because I get embarrassed every time an alarm goes off and everyone turns their heads to look at me. I'm like, do I make a break for it? Push my husband, and tell him to run the other way because "they can't catch us both!"? OR--do I just act casual? Then I remember I never steal, but now I look nervous anyway.

I wonder how long it'll take for the companies to supply all of their vendors with the NFC scanners because that part will probably be an expensive undertaking. Hopefully, Poshmark, eBay, and the other marketplace companies will keep the scanners on hand for their paid authentication services. From what I understand, at the moment the secondary marketplace authenticators are overworked and rushed through too many items to accurately weed out all of the fakes.

@jblended - Some questions are: precisely what information does the antenna in the Coachtopia bag's NFC chip store/collect about the handbag's user/wearer, how is that data collected and used, where is this information stored, and who is the information sold to? Does the NFC chip, which contains an antenna, interact in any other way with any of the wearer's other devices (cellphones, tablets, credit cards, etc.) when near those devices? Can a clever hacker extract sensitive data from the NFC chip when standing directly behind a person who is carrying one of these bags (i.e. in a checkout line)? I use an aluminum wallet to protect my credit cards, but I would have no idea how to protect a hidden NFC chip in a handbag, or to turn the NFC chip off, should I want to do so. In short, and in the words of Ricky Ricardo, I think that Coach has some "splaining" to do.
