Dear Fellow Coach experts:


I would like to ask for some experts' opinions regarding returns.
Would you please advise on the return policy for an item purchased with a partial payment with a credit card, and
with returned store credits?

(Please note, the math was Wrong as a computer error by the store)

Purchase:-
I purchased an item at a purchase price of $149.50 + 13% tax.

I returned 2 items for store credits to offset the purchase,
Item 1, $32.99 + 13% tax
Item 2, $41.99 + 13% tax

The receipt showed I returned 2 items, and I made a purchase of $149.50 + 13% tax

My credit card bill showed I paid $88.50 on August 9, 2013. (Should had been charged $84.21 instead)

The store cashier asked for my driver's licence and put in my name, address and phone number into their computer systems when she processed the return. The receipt showed the store number, said it was a Return Receipt Copy.


What should the refund be?
Should it be:

Credit card refund $88.50
Store credit refund ($149.50 x 1.13) - $88.50
= $80.43 (Store credit refund value) - should had been $84.72


Note:
I was very polite in the process, but was in shock regarding the unbelievable rudeness of the store manager.
The Factory store manager (very rude and talked over me) insisted that I only paid $88.50 (shown on my credit card bill)
and insisted that she would only refund
$88.50 as a store credit, refused to refund back to my credit card.
She said I did not pay $$149.50 + tax.

P.S.
My intention of going to the store was to buy my birthday present. Since the store manager was exceptionally rude, when she asked if I was to buy anything today I told her I was not going to buy anything (EVER).
The store manager told me to leave the store or she would call the security.

If you returned both items on the receipt the refund should look just like the original transaction, I just typed minutes ago I think they goofed. But I only looked at the totals not the cost of the individual items.

How do two less than$50 things cost $150? Are you looking at the original price?

I think your numbers are wrong somewhere. The total I get with what you wrote is $84.20
If you paid with credit card, it should have been refunded to your credit card.

Yes, they goofed.
But that was the only receipt I was given. I asked the cashier to just search my purchases in their computer but she said they couldn't. (Why did you need to put in my driver's licence number, and personal details if you couldn't find my purchases in your computer?)

If you paid with credit card, it should have been refunded to your credit card.

That was what was shown on the receipt, and what was charged to my credit card.
They should had charged $84.21 to my credit card instead of $88.50.

I purchased a Coach Hacking jacket at $149.50 (Original Price) + 13% tax = $168.94 (Purchase Total)

I was charged $88.50 to my credit card. (Should had been $84.21 instead)

I returned two items for store credits ($84.73 in value) to offset the purchase price.

Ignoring the fine details of any arithmetic mistakes, which I'm guessing is coming from tax calculations, then:

Total amount you paid = total you paid in the form of money/credit + total you paid in the form of goods(returns). ...... Those items you returned had value, just like a dollar bill has value.

So total amount you paid for the coat = the cash/credit you transferred to them (the 84 or 88 on credit) + total value of the returns you transferred to them.

So yes, of course payment does not always come in the form of cash. Payment can also be in the form of goods, bartering, etc. In this case, some of your payment for the coat was just in the form of returned-goods and you deserve that value back as well. You did indeed pay $149(plus tax) for that coat, and upon return of the coat, you should have received back $149+tax in one form or another ------ (149+tax returned to your card, or 149+tax in store credit, or 149+tax in different goods, or whatever ... or heck, even completely reverse the transaction, and give you back both the 84 or 88 they charged to your credit card *AND* give you back those two smaller items you *returned*).

I get the feeling that's what you're seeking confirmation on, yes? If so, then yes, you need to point out to them that payment and the exchange of value, can come in different forms, not just cash/credit.

The Math was wrong as it was the problem from the store's computer systems, not tax before or after merchandise credit.

The problem was I paid $88.5 in credit card, and paid $84.73 in store credit.

The return and the purchase was on the same receipt, and I have the receipt.

The store manager refused to refund me what I paid $84.73 in store credit.
She was basically stealing my $84.73, that I paid in store credit.

She only would refund $88.5 in Store Credit which I paid in credit card.

1) You paid 88.50 on your credit card, so you should get 88.50 back onto your credit card,
++++ PLUS ++++
2) You paid an additional 84.72 in the form of returned goods, so you should also get *that* amount back in the form of either store credit, or more goods.

Can you go back and argue it? Do you know any of the SA's well enough to explain it?

And just for the record, I'm trying to avoid the temptation of going to an outlet today ... not to buy anything, but just to satisfy my morbid curiosity over what the deletes wall is looking like, based on rumors from other outlets. .....But I'm trying to resist. ..... This is not helping. :laugh:

When I was in the store, as I started talking to a different Sales person, the store manager cut me off and said "I am the store manager."
All returns need to go through her so, no, cannot go back to the same store and explain.

Will complain to head office.

I didn't spend any time browsing inside the store. Since I waited for 30 minutes at the line for the return, I saw that the walls were full of Madison Madeline East/West satchels (black and white), Madison Sadie flap satchels (black and white), some orange color Gathered leather satchels, some legacy mini taner. I have never seen so much deletes at that location. It was at the Toronto Premium Outlet at Halton Hills at Toronto, Canada.

I didn't look at the price tags so don't know how much are the handbags. But I believe that there would not be any deletes styles that you couldn't get directly from the Coach.com handbag sale.
