Here is some before and after for a rehab project. Love Patricias. The leather is so thick on them it always responds beautifully.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this on TWO bags now! How disappointing!

I wish I could help, but maybe the best thing right now would be to set them aside and come back to them in a few days or a week. Sometimes taking a break helps me see things in a different light. Good luck!

Thanks again, Catbird9! I've been trying veeerrrry hard to be patient but my obsessive nature gets the better of me. I think setting them aside for now is a good idea.

P.S.- Does your Dinky show anymore signs of the shoe polish?

Very interesting. If I clean the bag using one of the products you recommend, how do I gauge when I've cleaned enough? How should I clean the lining? While it is sewn to the bag at the top edge, I can probably pull it out and wash it making sure I wrap the bag in plastic first.

The cloth you're using shouldn't continue to show any dirt or staining being lifted up and the colour of the bag will lighten and not look soiled. It's very important to do your cleaning in steps, allowing the bag to dry throughly in between, to see the results better. Be prepared to see some darker areas though, that's normal, and then begin conditioning in steps allowing the bag to once again have a chance to absorb and dry in between. Continue to do this until the leather is soft and supple.

For the interior I have no idea what condition it's in. If it's pretty gross then maybe turning it inside out and washing it is the best way to go but if the soiling is minor or non-existent then baby wipes tend to do the trick. If the bag has a strong odour, whether from cigarettes or perfume, then you can add a few tablespoons of baking soda to a new coffee filter along with some fresh coffee grinds (or even mint or citrus zest if you prefer) and a pinch of cream of tartar and salt and tie it all up into a little satchel. It's awesome for fighting bag funk.

I went to give our cat coconut oil, as she was sitting on the edge of the couch I reached over and a blob of it dripped on my coach slim pouch. Mine is also sitting with cornstarch. I almost died when I saw the drip heading for my bag! :censor:

Oh no, LondonUK! Best of luck.

Does anyone know where I can get a rivet (I think that's what this is) for a Coach bag I just bought? Thanks!

I have gotten rivets (& the installation tool) at a craft store for non-purse projects. I wonder if a cobbler could replace for a reasonable price though.

The last few days I've had terrible luck with keeping my purses pristine. I got a spot, I think it is grease, on my 1998 burgundy Rambler's Legacy. It was in pristine condition. I put some cornstarch mixed with a tiny bit of alcohol on it and now the spot is slightly lighter than the rest of the bag. You can only see it in certain lights. I think the lighter spot is preferable to dark grease spot.

Then today I noticed all these black spots on my crinkled patent leather bag. I figured out I had put it down on a printed plastic bag and the printing transferred to my bag. I didn't see it until we were in the car coming home. It was nerve wracking having to sit there with the stained purse in my lap until we got home. It came off with soapy water and a little scrubbing. I was so relieved!

I think I'm going to carry something black for awhile so I can relax.

Oh my heart sank reading this. And on a burgundy - my fave! Glad you saved the patent.

My latest rehab is a Crescent bag. Occupational hazard: falling in love with the bag you thought you were going to rehab and sell. This color is amazing. It might be burnt orange or red. (Strap is mostly dry, bag still wet.)

I'm reaching through my screen for that Crescent  i wouldn't be able to give that one up either.

Wow!! Great info!! Thank you!! I love the funk-fighting sachet. Here is a picture of the inside. It seems ok. ImageUploadedByPurseForum1460333783.680803.jpg
I've used cadillac boot and shoe care on small areas of vachetta. It says it cleans, polishes, protects and conditions....for all colors of leather, vinyl, reptile and other exotic skins. Any idea how it compares to the products you recommend?

The inside looks like it's in very good condition despite the exterior needing TLC. I'm not sure how Cadillac would work compared to the others but you can always ask for advice on the LV forum. Post a pic of the bag under a thread labelled "need help with cleaning vachetta" or something similar and the members there will be full of good advice and experience, regardless of brand or design. They're really friendly and welcoming so please don't hesitate to visit.

I'm half expecting an ugly (hidden) surprise inside!! I don't have the bag yet, but I'm much closer to getting it. If I do, we will probably meet up on the LV forum. Thank you for all of your help!!!

You may be able to find something on eBay or Amazon but it probably won't be an authentic Coach rivet. I don't know if rivets can be removed and reused or not, but you could try to find a Coach junker and use it for parts. Another option is to send it to Coach and ask them to repair it. They may fix it since it is only a missing rivet. Your chances are probably about 50/50.
