Amazon prime delivered my CPR this morning so I got to do my second dunk on the companion and then I put the first layer on.

Question to all cpr users:

my leather has become very soft. Is this normal? Its very squishy, Could I have put too much on? I was planning on doing another coat but now Im wondering if I should just leave the 1 coat as is to risk the bag becoming softer?
I love it when the leather goes soft...but you could leave it at one coat and do another aa a later date if you are not sure. Is it Costa Rica leather?

Has anyone ever tried dabbing diluted Rit fabric dye on a section of color loss on leather?

I have. it eventually stiffened up and flaked off. It has to be leather dye in order for it to penetrate the leather. I used the black fabric one on leather boots and the result was disappointing. If its not light leather, Id say its worth a try- you might have different results than me depending on the dilution and leather type. I wouldn’t risk it on a lighter bag though. Hope this helps in anyway.

Its a made in nyc bag. The leather is softer than my costa rica bags which is why Im scratching my head lol. I think I’ll wait for the bag to fully dry before I consider another coat. I don’t mind the softness but I just wanna make sure I didn’t do something wrong haha

I've dipped bags in RIT with some success. It just refreshed the color, making a bit more vibrant than before. Even with dipping, it was difficult getting it evenly. It dried out the leather a lot so needed a lot more conditioning afterwards. I didn't have any problem with it flaking off. I've also painted it on, but not diluted, to do an overall recoloring, not just on one section. Still had the problem with it not going on evenly. In that case, I ended up using leather dye afterwards.

I'm not sure that you can put too much on. It won't soak in when the bag is already saturated, it will just dry sticky on the surface of the bag. If you dunked the bag twice and had conditioned it after the first dunk, maybe the second dunk helped the previous applications of conditioner to penetrate deeper than normal? That's just a guess but another member here related her experience of applying conditioner after dunking the first time and got a softer bag after the second dunk.

I didn’t use cpr after the first dunk. I ordered it to use for the second dunk because this bag was being a pain in my side and I wanted to try everything lol  You could be right though, maybe 2 dunks and some cpr is what you need to make a bag super soft? Im waiting until its fully dry but I don’t think Ill do another coat of cpr yet. I want it to have some shape as its a companion bag, I feel like it would look weird sagging :)

I have a periwinkle lunch box with general fading on the edges along with some real patches oF color loss on corners. I was thinking if I could get the right mix of Rit or some other dye, I might be able to cotton swab it on enhance the edging more permanently than using a creme or polish. Next option is to paint them, but I am not sure which way to go with it.

Isn't that a good thing?

I think paint is a better option, easier to control.

If the bag is still really wet, that could make it feel soft. Typically I wash, leave it stuffed drying for roughly 36 hours and then do CPR unless some part of the bag (or all of the bag) feels overly dry the morning after it’s washed. In that case, I Spot CPR in the morning and Then do the whole bag that night. After that, it gets CPR at approximately 24 hour periods until I think it feels ok. Then I leave it alone for 2 or 3 days, check it and In most cases apply another coat. Leave it sit and if it feels ok after another couple days, do a horse hair brush on it and it’s done.

Aolbout 95% complete, my first ever attempt at rehabbing a non-vintage, lined bag. I had found this Bleecker XL Flap in bottle green for $42 and the leather was on the dry side and squished, but it had life left in it. So here it is before, during, and after a dunk, 5 coats of Leather CPR, and Blackrocks. I will be using my horsehair brush to buff it tomorrow.

It's nice and supple, and I'm not sure why, but my camera makes the bag look like there are faded spots, there aren't any, it's even. It's hard to capture how pretty it is in person.

It is, I was just worried I might have done something wrong lol

Ah ok I know what I did, I applied it right after it came out out the dunk, and I think I did too many dolps of cpr. I will let it fully dry now and maybe in 1-2 days do another coat. But I think the 1 coat is fine now, as the softness isn’t going away as the bag is drying :)
