I have read a little about rehabbing on this site in the past. But I could not find any specific criteria for when to dunk and when not to dunk. I am one of those people who needs guidelines. I am not too creative on my own, lol.

And not too long ago, I took an old leather gun holster that my hubby had and dunked it. Then I did the CPR and Blackrock thing and it came out lovely. It had to be at least 75 years old. I was totally amazed. I don't have the bag in my hands yet, so it may have some musty smell, etc. Thanks for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it.
I pretty much dunk any unlined bag. If the bag has lining, I'm more reticent. I also think twice about dunking really old collector's pieces.

Your new bag has pig suede lining. It can get wet but I don't think the type of leather used on the exterior will benefit from a dunking. It's kind of like Dooney AWL.

Thank you CR! I am very happy with the condition of the bag! From the auction pictures I had been expecting dry, brittle, moldy leather but that's not the case at all. She has very soft leather that smells like old leather. It is a nice feeling when they arrive better than expected! Thank you again for the advice. She's going in the bath this morning, after I take some good "before" pictures.

You’re so welcome! Can’t wait to see the after pictures [emoji4]

Thank you so much! I am thankful that I checked with the experts.

Whateve’s advice below is solid and basic. I consider myself a guideline person too lol. I was starting with classic unlined bags, from the 90’s, so they weren’t too old. I was dunking everything first and asking later, after seeing a guide on YouTube . Then I found this forum/thread. I learned a lot by dunking a few bags for the sake of dunking. And reading, reading and reading posts here! I tend to dunk as I gravitate toward *rehab specials* that need cleaning.

Hi everyone!
=D

This is my first post in this thread. I recently got a Court bag. It's my first vintage Coach. So I'm inexperienced. (For some reason, I didn't get interested in vintage Coach bags until recently, or actively look for them, despite hearing some good things a while back.)

On this Court bag, there seems to be an issue with one of the leather tabs (i.e. the loops that hold the strap).

On the right side, the leather tab is quite floppy. It seems to be stretched? I'm also a bit weary that the leather could split. The stitching looks a little loose, but that doesn't seem to be the main cause of the floppiness, because there seems to be an issue with the leather itself.

On the left side, the leather tab looks fine to me. It kind of looks like there's some piece of thin material inside the tab? (This was hard to capture in the photos.) Wondering if this is some kind of reinforcement. This bit of material isn't inside the leather tab loop on the right side.

I did find a description of a similar issue here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club.624452/page-365#post-22670712. These posts are from several years ago though, and thought maybe more people have had experience with this issue since then, and maybe some more conclusive info may have come with those experiences.

Any opinion about whether this issue will likely get worse while I wear the bag?

I'm skeptical that it's possible to do anything to fix this issue, or improve it. But figured I'd ask.

Also, don't know if this should affect what I do further to rehab the bag (e.g. with this issue, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to give the bag a bath).

Has anyone experienced this? And have you done anything about it?

Hi Jeny09! It’s the size of the bigger one in my picture [emoji4]

I see... oooh that is big. I was looking at some of that style (smaller size) but haven’t had any luck to find one as I am only 5 foot tall [emoji16] so bigger bag will look a bit odd on me [emoji4]

Does anyone here ever had modshots of that saddle bag in person?

Thanks for the info CR [emoji120]

You’re welcome [emoji4] I don’t have a mod shot for you, but the smaller bag is about 31/2 to 4 inches shorter across. It’s about 9 inches wide.

Anyone here have a vintage Coach briefcase or satchel?

The husband has asked me to source a laptop bag for him :biggrin:.

He's really tall, so I would ideally need a long strap drop so he can wear cross body. Does such a bag exist? I was checking out a listing for an Essex, but the strap looks like a shoulder carry length.

Any suggestions welcome!
I have a few vintage Coach briefcases. I don't think you'll be able to find one with a really long strap drop for him to wear cross-body if he is really tall. The straps aren't super long, even on the adjustable ones. I have a Carrier, a Beekman and another one that I'm not sure what it is called. I just looked, and I have them not quite on the longest setting, and I shoulder carry them. I'm 5" 6'.

Vintage briefcases weren't designed to be worn crossbody. You should be able to buy another strap to use on a vintage briefcase. I would get one that is wider to spread out the weight, ideally with a shoulder pad. A nylon strap might be more comfortable than a leather one.

It doesn't look serious at all to me. I don't think there is any problem with bathing. Are there any stitches missing on the bad side?

Ideas on the steps to rehab this bag. I have always been attracted to neutrals but this one somehow called out to me. But I have no idea how to go about fixing the uneven coloring. Do I wash in the sink ? All advice welcome.
