I hate polishing hardware but I have never tried using vinegar - please tell what you did to make that hardware look so great!

I used q-tips in straight vinegar and rubbed it into the small nooks and crannies. I then dipped the entire clasp and ball chain into the vinegar for a quick soak to loosen any dirt/debris. Then I used a scotch-brite non abrasive sponge and scrubbed off the funk. Last step, I used a flannel cloth to dry/polish.

If you use vinegar in the rinse when you dunk, it will make the hardware shiny. It makes polishing the hardware so much easier.

I often put some vinegar in a little bowl and let the brass sit in it.

I've done that for verdigris but not routinely for hardware. Do you only use vinegar for brass or also for nickel hardware? I never polish nickel very much.

How long do you let your bags dunk for? Also how long for rinse? If you use vinegar in the rinse water it won’t damage the leather?

I just dump some in. Maybe 1/4 cup or so?

It depends on the bag. I probably let most of my bags soak 15 minutes or so. I then rinse the bag under the faucet really well, then let sit in clean water for another 5 minutes or so. Then I usually rinse again until I'm sure there are no more soap bubbles. The vinegar won't damage the leather. I've added it at various points depending on when I remember to add it.

Thank you for the info I bought a cheap bag to try my first full rehab on. That way if I ruin it I am not out much money. How ever if I do the rehab right I won’t mind wearing the bag...

I typically use warm(ish) water for the bath. You don't want it to be too hot. I rinse in cold water.

I don't use it for nickel. Usually nickel doesn't need any work at all.
