Coach Prices

Wow thats crazy!. Coach is getting way to expensive for what they are. I pay regular price for their things that are under 200. I get coach stuff that is over 300 when its on sale!. I cannot pay full price for a coach bag over 300. If a coach bag I want is over 300..I rather save 400 more, and get a LV bag. They are seriously going to lose custumers doing that. They need to realize they arnt in Louis Vuitton or Chanels level!.

Color me weird here, but I still believe in the quality of the items that Coach produces. I like leather bags, and they do great leather bags. I don't really see the greatness in products like LV (especially the monogrammed coated items, which only have leather handles) unless you consider the Suhali items. I have seen, felt, and owned a great deal of designer items, and I think alot of the other designers have some definite quality issues, especially considering the high price of their items. Coach may have released some items in the last year that have a higher price point than previous selections, but if you examine those items against current "it bags" and their relative prices/quality, I don't believe that Coach is out of line price-wise. Just my lonely opinion

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I don't disagree that their leather bags are incredibly well made, but I tell you what boggles me about their pricing--the signature satchel in monogram fabric with leather trim is $328. The same bag in leather is ... $328. You'd think that there would be a difference in pricing, especially considering the materials, but it's repeated throughout the rest of their lines. Go figure.

I went to Coach yesterday to get the new cataloge and I must say, none of the new stuff is jumping out at me. The only bag I gasped over was 798$ !!!!!!!

I thought the 700$ Legacy was a one time thing but it looks like the higher pricetags are here to stay. A lot of the stuff in this cataloge seems overpriced.

So much for "somewhat affordable"

I think what is happening is that they are trying to have a more couture line and then an outlet line - alot of companies are doing the high end - mid range pricing structures these days to compete with the market.

i remember when coach was somewhat reasonable, then the celebrity status hit with the whole SUV and coach interiors in the 90's and it was a more exclusive bag, and then towards the end of the 90's the outlets were introduced and thier sales plummeted, therefore they are trying to deliver a line that is mid-range to compete with kooba, botkier, fiora etc. and slowly creep up to fendi/lv pricing structure.

for mid-range coach bags you will probably have to resort to outlet shopping since there seems to be a plethora of them popping up everywhere these days!

Just think, a few years ago, we were cringing, but paying 300 dollars plus tax for their highest priced items. The company's earnings have grown for the past 16 quarters. So unless a lot of us "vote with our pocketbooks" and not buy their goods, they will view corporate earnings as a validation of their current strategy, which is to be another Gucci, or Vuitton, etc. I have not purchased a full price Coach item in a while (with the exception of wristlets).

Yknow, I just realized that even though I do buy a ton o'Coach, the only stuff I have paid full retail (non outlet) price for are all accessories and "small leather goods" as ELux/LV calls them. The last time I paid full retail for a Coach bag in the regular store was well over a year ago. That oughta tell them something (but prob won't).

 I totally agree with you. I said this in another post about how if anyone was a Coach fan prior to 2001 (like me, I have been buying Coach since 1997) you would clearly see how much better the quality has got and so I don't mind paying the higher prices. Believe me I have paid a lot more for other designer bags......

The way I see it, Coach is looking at all these other new/hot/it lines getting big bucks for stuff, and figuring why not add stuff to their own lines in that price range to see what sells? I can't blame them for that. And they can't blame me for waiting until that same stuff hits the outlet for a much more reasonable price (IMHO). LOL

Agreed! But at the rate I'm going, I won't need to buy another bag in a store or outlet--there are too many things to choose from in the Marketplaza!

I absolutely agree with Evoque, fabric and leather handbags be the same price? I started buying Coach products last summer/ fall and purchased the Optic Signature large handbag. I liked the quality, but when I started seriously looking to purchase more, I kind of kicked myself that I spent $300 on a fabric bag, when a nice leather one would be the same price. I also changed my mind on the signature fabric bags, they *scream* COACH with all the C's and I wanted something that was well made, but more understated.

In the last month, I have got into Balenciagas. I had planned to purchase the Indigo Patchwork Tote when it came out, then realised that at that price ($428 + the keyfob $38 and tax, it would have been $465), I could have a Balenciaga for 2.5 Coach's at that price. I am choosing to wait and purchase more Balenciagas. I just couldn't justify $465 for a mostly fabric purse.

I think that Coach makes a quality handbag, I also like that they will fix them, that, to me, says that they stand behind their products.

I wish you well,

Bridget

I dont know about the fixing part. I was advised by the SA that they will only fix the bag for 2 years (what they consider the lifetime of the bag) and accessories only within 6 months. A 2 year lifetime on a bag!?

you know I have to say ever since I worked at Coach I have lost my love for the bags and moved on. I also am much happier buying something in LV mono or chanel, gucci, etc that's more classic. To me, coach has gone way too trendy (although a lot of it doesn't even look good to me anymore) and are trying to be something they're not. There is no way I'm paying $700 for I bag I won't want to wear next season! I'm considering selling off all my coach and only buying LV, gucci, chanel, etc from now on. What do you girls think?

I love Coach (a Coach was my first "designer" handbag) but despite my brand loyalty I wouldn't buy any Coach bag retail. They go on sale too quickly to justify it. I frankly don't even buy many things at the outlets until they go REALLY on sale. I saw a black Daphne satchel there today for $400, retail $600 or $700, I forget, and it still seemed so overpriced for what you were getting. I don't buy until I really feel like I'm getting my money's worth!

I agree with what so many others have said. I think Coach is trying to get into the league of LV, Chanel, and Fendi. They want their bags to become more exclusive and they want to do more "couture" items. I really can't see Coach being able to maintain their customer base with that kind of price issue. Most of them will say what you all have already said...you can just keep saving and get an LV instead.

I've totally noticed the same thing! I would personally definitely go for a completely leather bag rather than one that's one partially leather, if they're the same price...there's nothing especially special about the fabric, right? besides the C's all over it?
