I think it would be great as a book bag! I personally love those bags myself, am dying to get my hands on one!

but doesn't the leather get heavy with books in it?

part of the reason i got the baby bag (aside from a killer deal at the outlet) was because i had a leather bag i was using, but it was KILLING my shoulders and neck. i needed that softer handle, i guess?

plus, the baby bag should come with a longer strap, too...which i only use on occasion, but i'm glad i have it.

Does the baby bag not have a leather handle as well? I thought they did it was just thinner than the Hampton's strap?

Personally, I don't think the leather gets heavy at all. And I've never had a problem with the leather strap hurting my neck or shoulder, because mine started to 'loosen up' very quickly.

One thing that helped when I was choosing too was a weather factor for me. I live in Oklahoma and go to school in Kansas, and have seen some of craziest weather in both places. I would be too scared that rain or snow or hail or something would really ruin anything else.

the new ones have a leather handle. mine doesn't.

but i was going from an all leather bag to my current one...a world of difference.
