Coach is renaming itself?!?!?!?!?

Typing tapestry and bag into google (or Alphabet) at the same time and seeing at the images that come up, I'm not sure if that's the association that Coach would like in people's minds.

But no one will be searching for "Tapestry bags" for Coach or Kate Spade, just like they would not search for "Tapestry shoes" if looking for Stuart Weitzman shoes.

I don't look up "Kering bag" if I am looking for a Gucci or Balenciaga bag.

LVMH only became LVMH in 1987 after merging with Moet Hennessy. The actual name is "LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE"
My point is that "Louis Vuitton" still remained part of the name, after the merge. I think that if you have a good, trusted name and that's what you are known by, then you should keep it.

I also agree that it probably won't change anything for the average consumer, that wants to get a Coach or Kate Spade bag.

It remained part of name, but they still renamed it (and it goes by the shorter name LVMH anyway), and that name only reflects a couple of the many divisions and brands underneath them, which don't seem to be affected by not having a parent company with their brand name in the name as well.

I think consumers know the "good, trusted name" (setting aside those who don't see it that way due to past moves with MFF/discounting) as the brand "Coach". Not as "Coach, Inc." I bet a bunch of the people finding out the news today had no idea Coach's actual corporate name was Coach, Inc. anyway.

It seems to make sense to change the name in the direction they are going of buying new brands to become more of a house of many brands, because they don't want to be known as Coach, Inc. selling Coach brand alone anymore.

Off topic but "Beautiful The Musical-The Carole King Broadway show was Excellent!

Never had a chance to see it. But once in a while around Pledge Week time our PBS stations will run the Live From The Troubador concert she did a few years ago with James Taylor, which is really good. They still make great music together.

Funny, I found this article last night about Coach's name change and they actually mention the album.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/11/fashion/coach-inc-rebrands-tapestry-american-fashion-group.html

"Of course, there is at least one other reference associated with “Tapestry.”
“For anyone who is aware of the album, Carole King does come up,” Mr. Luis acknowledged, referring to the 1971 record. (He admitted that he had it at home.) “But we discovered most millennials had not heard of it.”

Besides, it is not turning “Tapestry” into its theme music. “We will not be playing it in the office,” he said."

And WHY NOT ??? :annoyed:

Coach will still be Coach. They will still sell Coach bags as Coach. They will still sell Kate Spade as Kate Spade. It is just a change to parent company name, not the actual brand names they are able to use.
I would have preferred they kept "Coach" as the parent name as well. I think it carries such a strong loyalty base and that Tapestry dilutes the value of the Coach name - now Coach is just one of many - instead of THE one to own.
