Stock took a major hit.

They need to go back to nice rich leathers. That thin crap they call leather is a dime a dozen. All the companies have gone to it. One of the reasons I have not bought a Kors bag lately.

They plan on cutting way back on FOS too. From today's Wall Street Journal:

"As part of its plan to reduce promotions, Coach said it is retooling its online outlet store "flash" sales, where products are offered at discounts in sessions that can last just hours. Starting in the first quarter of the new year, Coach said it plans to scale back its flash sale events to under three a month, versus a current average of about three a week. It also plans to lower the number of emails sent out tied to the promotions to about 200 million next year from just over 1 billion in the current year."

It will shift its focus to better stores and flagships in its 12 best markets, which collectively generate half of its North American sales.

This will help, carry the nicer bags in all the FP store while the department stores continue to carry the less expensive bags. The local FP stores only carry the lower priced bags, same as Macy's & Nordstrom in the same malls. I have to drive quite a distance to the flagship store to see the nicer bags. Plus, whoever designs the floor/boutique displays company wide also needs to be fired, the stores look empty and uninteresting the way they are now.

I'm surprised they would close 20% of the stores though. Seems like a big cut.

Seems they are counting on the many changes to correct things within two years, and some probably will help like sending less bags to the outlets and having sales in FP stores where they should be.

I agree with this. ^

There is a brand new outlet mall opening July 31, about 40 minutes from home, 20 minutes from work. It will have a Coach outlet. The closest outlet to me now is nearly 2 hours away.

I would not be surprised if our local FP closed. There are more SAs than customers whenever I've visited. It's in an indoor shopping mall with another indoor mall right across the interstate. Between the two malls, there are at least 4 department stores that carry Coach.
Are in MN? Talking about Eagan?

My local Coach store is always empty so I'm sure they're one of the ones to go. One thing that infuriated me was I paid full price for the Borough bags when some of you got them 25% off with F&F coupons at Macy's and Dillards. That's just so wrong of Coach NOT to allow those discounts when everyone else did!

Then again, EBAY might be the place to find what you're looking for-everything ends up on the bay sooner or later!

Yea, we don't have the options up here with mega outlets etc. Nevertheless, I have been getting my deals at The Bay when they include Coach during FF sales etc. Even excluded bags from Coach capsule collection get included. I often wondered how on earth the Coach boutiques could compete when they are trying SO hard to keep certain collections "exclusive"?

But I digress...yea, it makes no sense to buy online & import Coach to Canada. First off, we get same msrp in cad dollars; why get dinged for duty & shipping???

This is sad for the company. I like Coach - not all their bags suit me but I like their brand very much right up there with many premier designer brands.

It is funny, I don't find that The Bay has great deals here. Sometimes they have 25% off, but that is usually on older stock and those I have found at the outlet for better deals.

Even if we only had to pay for shipping, I *might* consider ordering online (esp. if they said, something like, spend over $200 and it is free), but the duty, No Way!

My local FP store seems dead all the time as well. Half the time I go, I am the only one in the store, and I am the only one who is buying anything. People who do walk in usually walk back out without make purchases. Having said that, I still see a ton of MFF bags, because the outlet is less than 20 miles from the FP. There are usually plenty of folks shopping there when I go in. I think the outlet is getting all of the business. I also think a lot of the people who shop there don't know the difference between the MFF bags and the FP bags.

I agree completely! The Bay sales are not nearly as good as the dept store sales in the US. TheY only get good when it's time for clearance and even then, its still not as great as the US. The boroughs were only 25% off recently at the bay and I managed to get another borough for 40% off at the coach boutique during their presale recently; which was alot better than what the bay was offering.

The sales at the bay are alot more restrictive than the dept stores in the US IMO.

I think one of the issues is the dilution of the brand mostly to outlet sales. I live near an outlet and a stand alone coach store. It seems like every person I see is carrying Coach, mostly outlet brand. I used to love Coach and have many bags I still carry and love. But to be honest I moved away from Coach a few years ago when the outlet came to town. I did just purchase my first Coach in years, the Caroline Satchel and I love it. But I now mostly shop other brands. I hate to sound snobby but Coach has a brand image issue in my opinion and that is why people are leaving the brand and sales are slumping.

My local FP is closing, not surprised, I NEVER see anyone buying from there, even during the holidays. How can they compete with Dillards and Macys in the same mall? Dillards is known for their wicked sales. Coach can't compete unless they restrict how the Dept stores sells their merchandise.

Ours closes next week or the end of the month, no going out of business sale, though.

Aren't we in the same FL area? Which store is closing?
